Vietnamese property tycoon Truong My Lan has been sentenced to death in a corruption case so big its total financial damages are equivalent to 6% of the country's 2023 gross domestic product and dwarfs the amount in the FTX cryptocurrency exchange scandal that resulted in founder Sam Bankman-Fried being sentenced to 25 years in prison.

If you ever wonder why some figures seem to continue to move up, although they are obviously incompetent. This is why.
