Erectile dysfunction is a very common problem among men. In fact, 10% of men under the age of 40 have erectile dysfunction and 60% of men experience erectile dysfunction by the age of 70. When Viagra, commonly referred to as the little blue pill, hit the market in the late 1990s, it opened the door for a conversation about this prevalent issue. In this episode, Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. George Papaicolaou to discuss the Functional Medicine approach to diagnosing and treating erectile dysfunction, and why it is so important to get to the root cause of this issue.

George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner. Upon graduation from his residency he joined the Indian Health Service. He worked on the Navajo reservation for 4 years at the Chinle Comprehensive Medical Facility where he served as the Outpatient Department Coordinator. In 2000, he founded Cornerstone Family Practice in Rowley, MA. He practiced with a philosophy centered on personal relationships and treating the whole person, not just not the disease. He called that philosophy “Whole Life Wellness”. Over time as the healthcare system made it harder for patients to receive this kind of personal care Dr. Papanicolaou decided a change was needed. He began training in Functional Medicine through the Institute of Functional Medicine. In 2015, he established Cornerstone Personal Health – a practice dedicated entirely to Functional Medicine.     I have ED and it is not sugar ,overweight, or anything else physical, Cialis make no difference in any way. It is the attitude of a woman, and the way self esteem dies completely. 20 years of nothing destroys everything .

    Great info and it's amazing how complex the human bodies are and how they are interconnected as far as being a fully functional male and how we can suffer health wise if we don't pay attention to these signs and symptoms that our bodies are trying to tell us !!

    Great discussion! You guys need to pick up some of the euphemisms, such as the Brits use (your John Thomas, etc)! 😊 But a really great explanation of the physiology and chemistry. Thanks for emphasizing the overall holistic health. I'd like to also learn more about the "failure" of sildenifil for blood pressure, notably because I am finding it to be very effective at this. This is in addition to managing stress, diet, and exercise, as an overall approach, but the incremental effect of sildenifil is remarkable, and I'd like to understand the mechanism more.

    I appreciate the holistic approach discussed here. ED is a marker for bigger issues that, if not corrected, will result in LD ... living dysfunction.

    Great video love the way you guys go into details about what causes ED. What really hit me is poor sleeping which is huge problem for me because of high anxiety ,business owner which I'm constantly worrying about my daily operations and then stressing about getting hard which leads to not getting hard.I'm in good shape so my problem is all mental related. I'm 66 now in excellent condition ,what changed me is when my wife and have time for sex we smoke a energetic grade of cannabis joint which I focus on what's to come in our sex activities plus my mind relaxes from anxiety, daily stress issues. My with is beautiful and in incredible shape so because I was not performing I was scared she would wonder and get satisfied elsewhere. So since we do the cannabis route is been awesome the last 10 years.Again mental his a huge part of ED.Thanks Again
