A Mantis Mating Disaster & Crisis in My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

In my giant cloud rainforest vivarium (Pantdora), I attempted the dangerous task of setting up the stage for two adult praying mantises to breed, in hopes to secure a future generation of praying mantis babies for Pantdora's rainforest ecosystem. The entire mantis courtship process was a nail-biting journey with a result I didn't expect. But after it all, I ended up with the biggest crisis in the history of Pantdora. Hope you enjoy this week's episode, Part 14 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

casually turning your house into an average australian home
  • @collwyr
AC tryna justify some kind of higher power/reasoning for why the Grey Reaper didn't get his jiggy jiggy on with the Green Reaper, but I think we can all agree Green Reaper was just pissed she got snubbed six times, that was just revenge. Grey Reapers end game needed work.

There's something poetic and mesmerizing about the initial moment that Grey Reaper was introduced to this ecosystem. Grey, standing on a lush green foliage, and Green standing menacingly above, in a grey canopy

I had a egg sack with praying mantises one summer. Had about 250 babies, fed them wingless fruit flies and as they grew - crickets. They would all turn and look at me when I walked in the room. They definitely know you are there.

Bro unleashed EVERYTHING into his house. Mushroom spores, spiders, ants and so much more.

That ending was DRAMATIC and CREEPY. This isn’t just a YouTube page, it’s a SHOW that rivals top streaming networks.
  • That was a death kiss. Whoever put the name "Green Reaper" knew the future.
  • @johanklausen
your Rainforest Vivarium project series is better than Netflix 🙂

This makes no sense, as I hate bugs, but I am absolutely mesmerized by this ecosystem journey. I even went back and watched you build the vivarium.

24:45 "He sucked try again creator of worlds!" I laughed so hard. Between her face and your tone of voice that was hilarious! I have been loving this series. Very well done and educational with explanation.

I actually yelped "oh god!" while at work when I saw Pandora's box was left open. Let's just cling to hope

I’m not surprised the Green Reaper ate the Grey Loser, he wasn’t mantis enough for her. He should have powered up that Spanish moss and grabbed her by the thorax. 😂

Did a bit of digging for Mr. Sun Skink and found that the Egyptian Sun god Atum is sometimes represented by a lizard. That enough felt like a valid connection for the name but Atum is also regarded as the progenitor of all the Egyptian pharaohs! This fits so well with the idea of Atum and all his seed being the rulers of Pantdora!
  • So something to note, studies have shown that mantis's in captivity can get extremely stressed out, especially while being observed. This is why almost all mantis breedings done in a lab resulted in the male getting eaten something that doesn't actually happen in the wild very often. There's a good change that you being in from of the vivarium and recording them the entire time they were neat each other contributed to this outcome. It would likely be a good idea to introduce them the next male far from the female, let them find one another on their own, and limit observation to prevent them from being stressed.

"She bit into his heart" yeah thats usually how that goes.
