I know we're all focused on the music and all, but holy moly Mona Finden's artwork is absolutely amazing

As a Finn I couldn't even tell this language is Finnish, never heard the original before. It's sung in an accent from North Karelia. Some accents in Finland are completely unrecognizable at times, with words that you can't understand. Still feels weird that I can't recognize my own language.

For ANYONE confused about the lyrics, especially Finns: Jumavei jumavoi käppee, heikko hemmo, käppee Heikko hemmo, jumavei juu... / / / The first two words are words that are used to express discontent – something along to mild profanities. "Voi" is common intensifier that can be used to turn any word into mild profanity but in this case it is used as a suffix and "vei" is just a derivative of it without any translatable meaning. (Jumaveistä tulee itselle mieleen turhautunut, tietyllä tapaa luovuttava ja etäisyyttä ottava suhtautuminen, kun taas jumavoi on hyökkäävämpi, mutta mitenpä tuon käännät) Also, "juma" and "voi" are still used together but always in the reverse order: "voi juma" Käppee is dialectical word that means something like lousy. Related to words such as "kääppä", "käppänä" or "kääpiö" – just very negative way to refer to someone. You essentially saying the person is like a tree with Polypore fungi growing on it. Heikko hemmo should be understandable for anyone. It translates roughly to "weak man"... or dude, bloke, whatever. Fun fact: Hemmo comes from the name Hemminki, so the word has similar origins as "jonne" – a derogatory term used to refer to (usually male) millennials. It seems in some ways Finnish culture has not changed much since the medieval times. Juu is just juu, an expression used to show compliance, consent, surprisement and such but depending on the tone, stress and context it can have the opposite meaning.

Lyrics for the original song The old wives around here have hatched an evil plot. Yes, those long-haired, idle crones are scheming against me: they’re going to make sure I’ll never ever find the kind of man I want. So they threw this ragged fellow at me, dumped a real down-at-the-heels bum on me. Oh me and oh my, a no-account good-for-nothing. He’s weak, this fellow they got me, weak, and a wild drinker besides. He’s useless, unpredictable, and has a bad temper. Oh me and oh my, what a no-account, feeble fellow. (The original song can be found on YouTube if you look up käppee Also Käppee means lousy) (I just found out the song is actually about a young girl around 14 being forced to be married to someone she thinks is "lousy" or Käppee)

for anyone wondering, if memory serves me right, the lyrics are a lady being very angry that her elders set her up with a crappy husband.

Lol I was born in Finnish Lapland and was like: “... sounds like finnish haha funny” My friend: “yo is this finnish?” Me: “nah, it just sounds like it haha” Little did I know...

If any of you want the original sample it's called Käppee by Värttinä
  • @tarunelee
It's weird that the original vocals are not mentioned in the video's description at all. I hope the artist himself at least credited the Finnish band Värttinä (song called Käppee) for their vocals. Great song any how. :)
