Lagos and Faro sit on the coast and provide gateways to the region, which consists of picturesque towns such as Carvoeiro, Ferragudo and PortimΓ£o. Famous natural landmarks include Benagil Cave, Ponte da Piedade and Praia da Marinha. Further inland, the Monchique Massif forms the highest elevation of the Algarve (902m).
