Tucked away in a rural mountainous area in France, lies a historic listed building now gloomily left to the mercy of nature.
Originally the residence of a French commander, the building was founded in the year 1250 when it was built around a pre-existing Romanesque church. It was then organized as a stronghold on a square plan, around a closed courtyard.
A century later, the buildings were devolved to a Catholic military order.
During the religious wars between the Calvinists and the Catholic league in the late 16th century, the estate got ruined. It was only in the early 18th century that the barns, castle and the church underwent restoration works, after which the castle and its domain were sold as national property.
In 1883, the western main building was redesigned, and this covered gallery against the facade was constructed, overlooking the courtyard. What makes this place so precious, is that it is the only commandery to have kept its interior fittings.
Stepping into each room feels like you have traveled centuries back in time, as everything sits magically crystallized in time.
Immerse yourself into a piece of truly preserved French history, as we visit and document this majestic desolate castle today.

At 4:25 time stamp look at the windows above their head to the right. Either it's another explorer or you caught evidence of a ghost. It gave me chills. Another beautiful video.
  • I hope someone will buy this beautiful building and restore it. Such a crime to let it sit empty and falling apart. Really sad, such a beautiful piece of architecture and history.
  • @normanmerrill1241
Architectural gold mine, literally. That is a brilliant find…I can’t believe it’s been left untouched…you discovered the best abandoned property I’ve seen…thanks…be safe…
  • Hi boys from Australia. As a lover of history & restoring fine antiquities it was nice to see that recent mail was found within the relics of this castle. Like all large estates & homes passed down to families over time the running costs are immense. There would be owners surely who sadly don’t have the time or money to bring this historic home back to its original state. Many aren’t sure what they can do as help is often very expensive but there are many people who would volunteer to get these priceless antiquities into boxes & catalogued where they can be stored safely for the owner. Many of us around the world would be honoured to help by purchasing anything the owner would like to sell helping to raise money to get this castle back to its hay day. Governments are happy to get these homes looked into & historically classed. With public interest rising due to your wonderful video work I’m hoping that the owners understand that we care for them & would like to offer any assistance that would start reclamation of their unique home. Explomo’ boys Is there any way you could make contact with the property owners? I think it’s all very nice that we all get to see inside these private peoples homes & that “YouTube” financially benefits ….. So why not pass it forward & make a difference in someone’s life who obviously needs a helping hand. I wish I could do something to get this started.. Does anyone from France know how to contact these owners? We need to get this resolved as time is not on our side. Much respect & thanks, Rhonda NSW Australia.
  • This was awesome. Thank you guys. Just imagine when this castle was so full of life with families and servants cleaning and fixing meals. Doors opened for fresh air flowing. Children running through the hallways and outside courts... wow. Beautiful to go back centuries. ❤️

Поражает то, что сколько много всё таки здесь побывало людей и ни кто не не разграбил ! не разломал ! не своровал ! не уничтожил ! эти Сокровища культуры нескольких столетий !!!!!! Хвала всем этим Человекам!!!!
  • The basin in the main hallway/entrance is a hand washing station. Usually for when one has been working outdoors, or has been working with animals, or when travelling by coach after a long trip. It’s a common site in France amongst country farmhouses and chateaus! They may be found in other European countries. The ‘secret door’ is simply a servants hallway so that they are not seen in the main hallways, mostly done in houses of the era. In this case it looks as though they are servants quarters possibly. This was done so that the servants seem to appear out of thin air, so-to-speak, to add to an air of efficiency, silence and minimal ‘visual’ intrusion into the lords home domain. IMHO . . .
  • Спасибо за ещё одно путешествие во времени. Замечательный дом, прекрасн антиквариат. Спасибо вам за работу. Ждём новых путешествий, удачи и берегите себя
  • The true artistry of the rarest kind. It gave us a glimpse into another era we who live in this modern world could only dream of. The opulence and grandeur of vast fortunes that were passed down through the centuries to their rightful heirs. I hope and pray this castle will last for many years to come before nature and the passage of time consumes it completely. What a privilege to have a glimpse into a time of rare beauty and grace. One of the last rooms that was connected to a much smaller one was no doubt the children's room and the other belonged to the Au Pare (sp ?) or as we know them here Nannies. Thank you for showing us the gem and for the great effort it took to get there.
  • Красивейший замок. Столько веков прошло а он сохранился! Невероятно!
  • @mobabn6086
Did anyone else see the woman walking behind the Windows upstairs at 3 -4 min
  • I have such mixed feelings about these abandoned places, especially when beautiful items are left to rot, break and decay beyond repair or use. I love to see these places, but I feel so sad at the same time. I’m haunted by the “why” and “how”. It breaks my heart to see Art go to dust. Such a waste.

Great video. You guys are definitely not alone. At the 3:36 mark a figure in a white, old fashioned shirt appears above you at the windows. Right to left. Stops and appears to watch you then walks slowly away. Figure appears again at 4:24 left to right, walks along corridor. Again figure returns at 4:46 from R t L, stops peers from the window to the courtyard, lingers a few seconds then disappeared. Slow down speed to .25 and watch in slow motion. Fascinating !

The (water) container and basin on the wall by the door was most likely for anyone coming in to rinse off their dirty hands before entering the main part of the castle.   The item that you said might be equipment for a fireplace is most likely a "steel" for sharpening kitchen knives by dragging the knife blade over the surface at a certain angle. The utensils in the drawer were not tarnished, so they probably aren't real sterling silver, but simply stainless steel for everyday use. The game with the smalls balls is called Oware (or the common English name is awari), played worldwide with possible origins in Africa.
  • Meu Deus! Me emocionei demaiiiiissssss! Queria estar ai tocando essas peças, esses móveis, sentindo a energia desse lugar, amo todo que é antigo. Maravilhoso. Móveis muito bem conservados, essas lareiras fantásticas! Fico imaginando toda movimentação da família no cotidiano!
  • Love how both of you show so much respect to the past inhabitants of the properties but how you respect the beautiful contents of the properties you both highlight. Your combination knowledge is so refreshing, informative and 👁️ opening. Thank you for this video!
  • @saiprom
Wow! What a historic home, hard to believe a beautiful home like this got left abandoned, all the antique got left around the area, everything inside is amazing, thank you for sharing
  • @jeannielocke1522
Did anyone else notice the white figure passing by the Windows inside the castle, in the view from the courtyard @ about 4:20 into the film and then back again @ about 4:50? Was it more of the film crew? So weird as the camera guy and both explorers are in the overgrown courtyard!

The painting at the entrance means (he is under the knife of sad suffering. But from heaven he awaits the just reward) It’s written in French : Il est sous le couteau de la triste souffrance. Mais du ciel il attend la juste récompense.
