  • This is amazing - thanks for all you do for your community of fans!
  • @bezerra777
    Congratulations, mate! You didn't just use original NASA images, but brilliantly combined material from NASA with American TV networks and other sources in an incredible production! Thank you so much for this series of videos as well as for other great videos on your channel!
  • @tsr207
    What a marvellous series this is ! I remember the BBC's coverage of 8,9,10 and so on - detailed , professional and easy to follow. I followed it all and watching these clips again remind me of how excited we all were.

    Fantastic, just fantastic! Watching Wally wipe off a tear from his eye and Cronkite at a loss for words is just priceless. What a historic moment for mankind that was.
  • I've got to say I feel like Vostok 1 should be 1st and Apollo 11 should be 2nd. If Yuri hadn't orbited I would say it's a tie but the fact that he did an actual orbital space flight, he was first in space, and the United States single biggest motivation to go to the moon was because of the success of Vostok 1.

    Thank you so much for another outstanding video. RIP Walter Cronkite and Jack King, two stalwart voices of the Space Age.

    Hours and hours of wonderful images. I’m at #9 and already the tears are running down my face as I remember that cold December Saturday lunchtime in UK. What a flight. Still a remarkable feat and a massive risk by NASA.
  • @iEcilpse
    i absolutely love the effort you put into this!! you always put so much work into making your videos and it’s so awesome to see the final product when it’s done :)
  • Fantastic job LM5 and thanks for posting all that video of Yuri Gagarin. As a Canadian, I appreciated that shot of him playing some outdoor hockey haha!! So sad how his life ended after his friend Vladdy Komarov was killed onboard Soyuz 1. Btw, so strange that the original Soyuz and the block one Apollo command module were horribly built, but both redesigns went on to eventually become workhorses - despite Apollo 13 and Soyuz 11. Also loved the coverage of the moon landing of course, I can still remember the CBS coverage on my Aunt's TV that afternoon and then getting home in time to see the moonwalk later that night. Absolutely incredible!!

    Apollo 11 would have to be #1. Not only did they barely have enough fuel to land on the moon they almost didn't make it off the surface. The circuit breaker for the ascent stage engine was broken and Aldrin had to quickly improvise a solution. That aside I think that the Soviet's greatest space achievement might have been Venera. It took incredible engineering to make a probe survive not only landing on that planet but also surviving as long as it did.
  • The sun was coming up, the glow of the re-entry heat was flowing over the nose of the Shuttle, the view out the window was superb, and John Young turned to Bob Crippen and said, "What a way to come to California."

    The professionalism of the journalism in these examples really stands out to me. Such respect for both the subject matter and the intelligence of the audience. It's such a pleasant contrast to the hyperbolic and oversimplified way TV news and factual shows are often presented today.
  • I enjoyed all three installments very much...thank you...:face-red-heart-shape::trophy-yellow-smiling:

    A very young James Burke in Apollo 8 broadcast.

    Another tour de force from LM-5! BTW "burning clean and hot" I think is a great description of a rocket launch.
