SHE'S FINALLY HEREEEE i know it's a tad inappropriate to post this on christmas but i figured it'd be a good way to end the year
my first full beetlejuice animatic.... and my first full animatic since like. february LOL
this year has been a shitstorm if im being quite honest and it didn't help that i was constantly creatively drained, i'm still shocked that i was even able to do this tbh
regardless, i really hope you enjoy this cause it was a nice exercise/a nice return to animatics (shockingly it wasnt at all stressful???? although it did take 3 times slower than animatics normally do whoops--)

I relate to this a fair bit since my mum died when I was 15 and people kept telling me I shouldn’t be upset because they lost their “partner” “sister” “friend” and not that it’s a competition, but I lost my mum? You’re all grown adults my mum was my sole caregiver and I had to watch her die. So how dare you belittle my pain and tell me it’s worse for you.

One headcanon I read once and has stuck with me since is one where Lydia shares her name with her mom (instead of her being named Emily). They both are "Lydia Deetz", making her both dead and alive in a deeper and more literal sense than presented in the musical. The fact that Lydia never addresses her dead mom by name in the musical, plus the lines "I'm your clone" and "whatever it takes to make him say your name", also take on a whole new meaning from this and I think it's pretty neat

I really love how you draw Lydia. She looks so much like the way I’ve seen people draw Veronica from Heathers. Which is fitting, because the original actress from the movies was Winona Ryder.
