Video2000 tape being played in a VHS VCR

Published 2018-08-27
I have 8 V2000 tapes but no such VCR. So I thought I could try this rather pointless experiment. As you can hear, the audio plays backwards because on a V2000 machine, when side A is playing, the audio head reads the bottom portion of the tape, unlike Betamax and VHS tapes which have the audio track on the top edge of the tape. So the VCR was actually playing the audio of side B backwards! Of course no picture can be seen.

Remember guys, don't try this at home because the same thing is gonna happen to you.
  • good try, i suggested to see somthing like a vertically splitted screen with side 1 and side 2 at the same time. may be a codec firmware update will fix this? (joke)

Hi mate, which oil do you recommend for motor shaft lubrication? The 3 in 1 type oil that everyone has at home is a good option...? I'm doing some work on a VCR. Thank you mate.

Well obviously it won't work since V2000 is actually a quarter inch format while VHS is a half inch one.

It sounds backwards, because you threaded the tape upside down.

I managed to align the V2000's video data with the VHS head and video came out, but in black and white and distorted.
