  • It's amazing how evident the style of high level quake is in this video, despite how primitive it is

Thresh is dominating the game so much that it makes you wonder how Entropy even made it to the final stage of the competition. It must have been real easy for Thresh. This guy is a machine lol.

I remember before this game came out there was some source code leak where all you could do was walk around one map and spawn a bad guy who couldnt even see you and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen! Now games almost look like real life but I still don't get the same feeling that this game brought me when I was like 14 years old.

Used to play DM and clan arena with all those old guys. I remember when Fatality started winning all that cash and getting sponsorships. Everyone organizing matches on IRC. Uncanny how much of these maps I remember.

Its crazy to think that Q1 is still the purest form of DM/duel.

I love how the jerkiness of mouse movements are preserved in the demo. A sign of times.

I was a kid by the time ive played Quake, in the school we made almost everyday Lan parties. After 20 years of playing i still say Quake is one of the best multiplayer games ever made by human hands. I mean the original maps werent really designed for multiplayer, but just by watching this match through you realize how intense conflicts between two players can be. And those guns sounds, the level design, the atmosphere. You'll never get it anywhere else.

Using WASD and mouse in right hand yes(that's basically the standard now), but a lot of it is also his tactics. Used cover to his advantage and a really strong weapon like the Grenade Launcher.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at 9:43 I suspect he knew his opponent was coming down the hall when he heard the ammo respawn nearby. Then he just calculated in his head how long it would take for his opponent to reach the staircase from where the ammo box was and lead him with a rocket.

i noticed that the N64 game golden eye uses the same item respawn sound file lol

How does the voodoo 3 hold up in benchmarks for GL quake?
