With game gears in their current state needing capacitor or screen replacements, lets build a new one out of 2022 parts!
We'll be using a SYF mainboard utilizing the BennVenn display.

I like that you have a towel for soldering on. Everyone should have a soldering towel.

I love seeing game gears being worked on! Not sure if I would have personally gone with the all clear lens but either way absolutely stunning!
  • @Zobbster
I wasn't expecting this level of 'new', so it was a good surprise. Great video, nice work!

I really enjoy watching those retro console repairs and mods.

I love seeing the progress the BennVenn mods make over the years
  • Very clean install. Nice work. Bens LCD has certainly come a long way since I did that first shonky install with the first prototype.

Great video. I grew up with the Sega GG, and it was how I was introduced to many Sega IPs. Your clear, cleanest GG is sooooo 90's it hurts. Looks awesome.

This Game Gear is absolutely legendary! And you guys did a great job putting it together!

Thanks YouTube for recommending me an awesome channel, proof the algo sometimes does a great job.

My go to with soldering TQFP components is by first just flooding the pins with solder and then going over it with soldering braid, but this looks much easier! For that game port with the plastic spacer it might be easy to remove with a desoldering pump, but not sure if that would melt it too.

Really cool and nice work! This kind of stuff is pretty fascinating to me since it's so far over my head, lol. The idea of a game gear without needing so many batteries is really appealing for sure!

Long time retro gaming fan here, I've never seen your channel before but this is super awesome! You've gained a subscriber here.

It's really cool how those old consoles can be repurposed, I hope the twin ASIC models will be moddable too.
  • @emlyndewar
Great content on this channel. I think I might have to buy a game gear soon.
  • Great video. Did you ever go back to solder the point near the brightness wheel for using Ben's screen? Wonder if that was the source of your grounding issue?
  • @fro7465
This insane and I love every second of it
