Most of the commentators seem to view this as a confirmation of their views of religion. I think the message was about not letting religiosity get in the way of faith. His looking at his past “accomplishments”(the pictures, the statue he carved) indicates a religious mindset; look at what I have done. Yet he was miserable & the church looked like there were no parishioners. He was stuck. His experience with the golden rooster freed him to remember what true faith is about & allowed him to literally continue his journey.
  • Noticeable, the imaginary evil rooster (as the real one was thrown to the tree) was his own demons, trying to take away his liberty and finally taking his place. And that's what happens in real life. Once he found the golden rooster to show him the direction, he took ownership of his life again. Now, religiously inclined people will tend to interpret this meeting as a mystical one, according to their faith. It's a valid point of view based on their belief systems. Some of us instead may interpret as a symbol of the integration of his self, accordingly to some model of the mind we have. In the end, is a message of hope for those who are willing to confront their shadows.

The meaning is simple. Those who eat pepperoni and anchovy pizza just before bedtime not only get heartburn but discover the intricate knowledge of the intellect and the distinct taste of regurgitated pizza during the night.

A lovely movie than doesn’t spoon feed you the message, but asks you to think for yourself. A simple and profound ending. Thank you all.

Sometimes I get the impression that there isn't anything truly original out there anymore, that it wouldn't be possible for any piece of art to catch and keep my attention - especially films. And then, suddenly, after casually scrolling through my algorithm-dependent feed, my eyes catch a glimpse of this thumbnail. "Funny"?, I thought. This has to be either unusually good - or, which I thought more probable - excessively bad. I gave it a go, ans then... It genuinely took me by surprise! Melancholy, horror, suspense, sorrow, gratefulness, peaceful tranquility - what an atmosphere! 15 minutes just flew by - but I didn't want it to end! This worked so well! From the very beginning I knew I wouldn't regret spending my time with this gem. Such a plethora of various creative techniques - I'm rather fond of the animations in the stained glass-window (or whatever you call it in English) - and beautiful shots (11:40 !), this incredible attention to detail, all this - sometimes quite cyrptic - symbolism - absolutely stunning! In addition, I generally like short films which work on a nonverbal basis - for certain genres at least, 'cause then there is room for the visual and other auditory stuff to carry the narrative and convey the message. The sound effects truly impressed me, I am so glad you didn't exaggerate the use of music. The protagonist seemed to experience a sort of - alcohol and isolation induced? - delirium. I felt like it was meant to portray this sense of transcendence, which worked quite well. It felt like a completely unique take on this alter ego concept à la Jekyll and Hyde or The Picture of Dorian Gray, for instance (ok, the connection is rather remote, but still... ) I was so glad the character found a way out of his "damnation". You got me thouroughly hooked - emotionally as well as intellectually. I can't imagine how much time you invested for this, but the result is absolutely worth it! It certainly had an impact on me, a truly unique, personal expérience - I won't forget it. There is certainly so much more to say concerning the excellent cinematography, the psycholgical level, references, how one could interpret the symbols/metaphors etc... But my physical abilities to type seem to decrease - slowly but surely. So, how can I end this mess? Uhm... You seem to be enormously talented and passionate artists - never lose faith (!) in your work! I truly appreciate it!

For me this means : We always have a choice even if it's sometimes difficult to see, realize and then take action in the direction witch seems to fit.

I loved it, thank you. I bet no Christian based organization would be happy with this short. There is always the exit option.

I was pleasantly surprised by this short film. I'm glad I watched it and I now deservedly consider it one of the best short films I've ever seen. This is truly a beautiful story in every sense, and you can see how hard the creators tried on this work. The photorealistic visual style, made with a mixture of computer graphics and puppet animation, as well as a cautionary tale about a priest experiencing a crisis of faith, make this creation admire. There is clearly a lot of talent here ! 😃

The church is the house of God and it is a place of worship. He was wrong in his practices. He suffered from a lack of faith, but what he went through in reaction to the lightning strike made him return to his faith in God. A wonderful work of art for a beautiful story.

This was lovely. I live in a monastery and it made my day. going to bed now.
  • It shows us how lonely we really are. How we need faith, nature, animals and other people to really function as human beings.
  • @triancey
    Magnifique, et extrêmement original. Bravissimo.

I was indoctrinated as a child just like this guy. I was a sincere Bible thumper but my love of logic and nature allowed me to kick the habit at one point. I love living without the guilt I never deserved.
