Dr Doom is one coldest villains in marvel. You would think he gets multiple movies. So the fact we get a familiar actor playing as Dr Doom is like taking a franchise away from another actor we could have fallen in love with.

Would be interesting if he’s actually playing Victor and wears heavy makeup and prosthetics. Like Colin Farrell as Oz or the roles RDJ has in The Sympathizer. Better than him being a Stark variant.

Robert Downey Jr. coming back as Dr. Doom signal to me that the original avengers cast is coming back as villains. Perhaps the route Marvel is trying to take: the new avengers battling the old avengers/new villains.

A theory I keep reading and hearing is Disney/Marvel is desperate and wants to bring RDJ back in some way. That said though, it’s an interesting twist, but I would prefer a more traditional Victor Von Doom approach

I don't think it's that complicated, he probably accepted this role because it allows him to be fully unrecognizable with a complete transformation, in terms of his acting style, voice and also being physically covered up. If he ever shows his face, it will be a mangled prosthetic mess worse than Deadpool's. I trust the Russos will be able to make Doom into a Thanos level presence on screen in such a way that no one will be thinking about Tony Stark anymore.

It can’t be let go for Rdj being an actual Tony stark, but it should something that is optimistic that we can hope for him nailing the performance potentially.

if RDJ is really Doctor Doom then it's probably a multiverse variant where Tony Stark is evil. they had various story lines where Tony Stark turned rogue or evil in the comics I'm sure one of them involved him becoming Doctor Doom. it's an interesting twist but this should be something done years later after Doom is already an established character in MCU.

Marvel went downhill after Downey and Evans retired, so they needed to bring them both back again. Might as well make Evans play Red Skull next, which would have been something.

Marvel can go so many ways with this. They can adapt stories from “Infamous Iron Man” where Doctor Doom wears the Iron Man’s armor in Civil War II, or when Iron Man and Victor Von Doom swapped minds. Iron Man and Doctor Doom teamed up in Doomquest in 1981’s Iron Man #149-150. Either way I’m hyped for this. It’s MAHVEL BABY.😊🙌

I think they are basing this casting on What If Demon In An Armor. If y'all have ever heard of that. Basically a body swap episode with Tony & Doom so they CAN credit RDJ as Victor Von Doom because it would be Doom in Tony's body.
