  • Thanks very much for this! I have just bought the same model which I intend to use on my mates layout. The model really captures the look of the Romanian-built Grids. When I service the model, I will know how to dissemble and reassemble everything now. Gulp! Best wishes from up here on Wirral!

Thx for the video. My one is doing exactly the same, just a buzzing motor with no movement.

Excellent video Kevin I’m having similar problems with mine squealing at slow speeds so now I can have a go at taking it apart to fix it. Thanks for sharing

I bought a second hand 56 a few weeks ago and was running rough, turned out to be them square bearings on the worm gear. Great little video.

I’m just so glad you did it first and shared it Thanks D

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve just done the same to mine. Until seeing this mine was sat in its box for two years plus. I was just so fed up with it squeaking Under the cap was brown dirty grease. I’ve just used a drop of power lube Now superb quite runner ThanksDan

Great stuff Kevin, I wouldn't have known where to start. Well done..................John.
  • Hi Kevin Very useful to know about that little bearing as I have a few squeaky 56s. Cheers Paul 👍

I have a class 60 which appears to be a similar chassis ,with a bogey which has the same pin in chassis connection .I was reluctant to force it out of the chassis but now I have seen this video it appears to be no problem. My pinion drive was squealing but a drop of o8l seems to have fixed it. Cheers thanks for the video

great video ,glad to see you didnt do away with the fans as a lot of people advise on cutting the drive belt to them stating they put undue load on the motor ,they dont ,9 times out of 10 its the grease in the gear towers that solidifies , they are tricky to get all the lights working too when the body has been removed ,definately one of hornbys better locos , couplings arent the best design fhough ,thanks for sharing ,mick
  • @ipcress1066
Thank you for that, I have exactly the same problem
  • Very helpful tutorial. Have a 56 with same non movement. Do not have the confidence to carry out the works you did.
  • @FarlandHowe
That was very interesting. I am unlikely to go that deep into a loco. Maybe next time I will give it a try because of this. I'm usually afraid I'll make it worse. Rob

Now I know what's wrong with second 56 first one I got replaced under warranty second one is out of warranty and has started squealing same as first one and has very little hours of running not sure I will be able to tackle that job on my own cheers 👍
  • @WestBlythMPD
Hi Kevin, just came across this great video, how did you remove the old grease and clean the parts prior to lubricating? Michael
  • @gtnighthawk4414
im too scared to do that too my Coal sector DCC sound class 56 and only headlights work on one end 🤣
  • @howarth004
