Care/Feel: Queer Mental Wellness in the Music Industry
An impactful conversation held during Mental Health Awareness Month, with a focus on the LGBTQIA+ community and mental health for the music community. Our incredible panelists, from artists to industry executives, share an honest dialogue about their experiences with mental health in music and the queer community, and how we can ensure we have the support and resources we need to keep fighting for progress – and music. We hope this discussion motivates you to think about the practice and importance of mental health in your own life.

Special thanks to the incredible panelists:
Brittany Campbell - Artist, Singer, and Songwriter
Adam Lambert - Artist, Singer, Songwriter, and founder of the Feel Something Foundation
Kris Munoz - Senior Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs, BMG
Janoc Vance - Managing Director, Mental Health & Addiction Recovery, MusiCares
VINCINT - Artist, Singer, and Songwriter

And thank you to the teams at Hotel Ziggy, BMG, MusiCares, and the Feel Something Foundation for your collaborative efforts.

What a dynamic mental-heath summit this was!How diverse the panel was with men, women, black, white, hispanic, queer, straight, bisexual, religious, and non-religious participants. I was really impressed with the moderator, Adam Lambert, who doesn't consider himself political. I can't help but envision him testifying before the US congress on behalf of our young people who lack the support from their parents or guardians, religious leaders and educators regarding their mental and sexual health. Those teen years are difficult to transition through to adulthood. They're seeking acceptance among their peers and adult leaders. It's an ongoing identity crisis. Adam talked about not liking what he saw in the mirror during his teen years. Gosh, I experienced that too as a teenager. Frankly, no matter what decade it is, all young people go through the fight to be popular and attractive. How I wish that I could have attended this mental-health summit. I would have picked the brains of each panelist. I appreciate their testimonies of how frustrating it has been for them to navigate through life as queer artists or administrators. The audience is to be applauded for being mature and hospitable thoughout these discussions. I also saw a video on YT of Adam making a sobering statement in his home before a group of people about being openly gay in the music industry back in 2009-2010. He was so enlightening about having to change the pronoun in his hit song WDYWFM to avoid offending the masses. One of the house guests called Adam a trailblazer or a trendsetter and rightfully so.

This was really interesting, educational and therapeutical to listen to even though I’m not in the music industry and not queer. Thank you Adam and all of you.
  • I'm so happy that this is happening finally for so many people. Thank you Adam and Friends!!!!

thanks so much for sharing this video. I have watched it over and over again, discovering new inspiration, wise advice and valuable food for thought each time. Thank you to all the participants who were so brave to share their inner and outer struggles with the public, thank you for the wonderful work of MusiCares which is obviously a hope and an anchor for so many, and of course a special thanks to the "screaming clown" Adam Lambert who initiated the meeting and moderated it in a charming and humorous way.
  • and I learned that MusiCares is a group that I need to support with charitable contributions!

  • Thank you Adam and panel. This was very enlightening for humans in general. Some are so opinionated in a negative way these days, I think your discussion can benefit all humans if they would just stop and really listen!
  • I wasn’t sure what this event was about when I first saw it posted recently. Now, after watching…I can see the need for more of these kinds of talk sessions (?) not the right word, I’m sure…for creatives and people in the business. I am not in ‘the business’ but I can see how cathartic this event seemed to be for both the panel and the attendees. It was really interesting and, I hope, helpful to many people.

I love that Adam is using his fame/power to educate and take care of people that can't afford to take care of themselves. America is so broken, especially when it comes to healthcare.
  • I'm thankful to have this discussion to listen to. Ironically I had to be excused from a day long forum on self-care in my profession of child care because I'm my mom's caregiver and can't leave her alone for so many hours, not having anyone to reach out to for a break. Watching this is my self-care session instead.

Great discussion, this is from an ally for he gay community and definitely not a musician unless you have hair canceling head phones. One thing I've learned in this life is no matter what anyone else tells you be yourself! Also for those folks in your life, you are concerned about, meet them where they are at, it may not be where you are at, but you can't help anyone until you can accept that person faults and all. I'm not a musician nor famous and I will be honest, I literally cringe when I think about walking down the street and everyone knowing everything about my life or thinking they do, the thought of that gives me a panic attack. Bless you all!

Mental health is very serious it's something you definitely don't mess with and needs to be taken seriously because it's not funny and not a joke and something to laugh at and alot of people don't take it seriously and laugh about it or laugh at it but it's not something to laugh about and think it's funny it's far from funny it's actually quite sad and very serious and alot of people suffer from mental health mental health needs to be talked about alot more and brought to our attention more and we need to pay attention to it alot more mental health is so important someone could easily say there fine when really in reality there not see mental health isn't always noticeable that's why we need to pay closer attention to people around us just in case there suffering from mental health themselves that's why there's so many suicides because we miss the signs of mental health issues so if you think someone maybe suffering from mental health please pay close attention to them and maybe suggest a counselor to them and if not be there for them so they have someone to talk to be there listener and being just a listener would mean the world to them just by listening so please let's try to make one less suicide if possible
