The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is on the lookout for a woman allegedly stealing luggage at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

After a long trip out west with her family, Erin Hager got caught up in a game of finders keepers. But it's a game that she didn't want to play.

Airports need to stop allowing access to the baggage claim area for those with no legitimate reason to be there. Air tags will not stop someone from taking your luggage so that's pointless. You might find your luggage after they took everything so pointless. It's simple; just remove public access to the baggage claim area and that will reduce the volume of theft. You know these criminals are coming in from the street.
  • A very long time ago…people had to show their luggage ticket when leaving the airport…

Why cover her face? If she doesn’t feel shame to steal people’s luggage! Airport should post their photos at the luggage pick up area and I am sure they would not steal again!! 😂😂

We need to reach out to our local governments to demand baggage claim be locked down and make the airport liable for the theft. Also, demand that the FAA do something.

They really should just make the baggage carousel part of the interior part of the airport. Part of the secured zone. If I remember correctly, on international flights, usually you pick up the suitcase before leaving the secured zone. I understand that is due to customs, but we should implement the same thing for domestic flights.

Years ago, airlines checked your bag before you got out the door, you had to show ID with name matching the luggage tag.
  • Totally true. Baggage claim should be before exit to the main airport area.

Everyone thinks that AirTags will be the answer to stolen luggage. All it will do is notify the owner when the stolen luggage leaves the location and confirming that the luggage is stolen. The video shows that the luggage was already loaded into a car and driven away. Who can the owner get to follow the stolen luggage? From the sound of things, the airline and the airport wont do anything because neither is acknowledging responsibility. I doubt the police will do anything because the crime is likely a misdemeanor. The lawmakers need to force the airlines and airport to put in some security measures to prevent the thefts from happening.

If ppl are paying $30 to get their backs checked. They should have a sort of scanner that once your at the gate you can scan your tag to your luggage and it be allowed to come off and also check the status if your bag may have become lost or delayed or just needs to wait.

In Japan, you have to match your baggage claim tickets to your luggage before you leave the airport. (It is only informal and not strictly enforced.)

It happened to my parents but not sure if intentional. The person didn’t check the name on the tag and took my parent’s luggage. They did have to get airport workers to help out as the person was sitting the luggage while just on the phone the entire time. The person’s real luggage was still at the baggage claim area. It all worked out once my parents got their luggage but their friends had to wait for them.

Luggage being stolen should never happen.
  • In Mexico's airports, they have security asking for your ticket info to be able to get your luggage.
