  • Her voice is like no other! She sounds like our ancestors! Well deserved

This is not a popularity contest, it's about REAL talent. The right person won.
  • I knew she was going to win, it’s been over a decade since a jazz artist was nominated in this category since Esperanza Spalding in 2011. Congrats Samara! Extremely talented artist, guys please give her a listen.
  • I’m so glad she won. Wanted her to win, but wasn’t sure if she would. Amazing vocalist, and her album is so sublime too - go check it out, it’s called Linger Awhile, which also won another Grammy tonight.
  • I am loving the sporadic female jazz musicians winning best new artist! Esperanza was one of my faves.
  • My husband and I went to see her in concert three times over the last few months. I first heard her online before she was nominated and just knew in my gut that this girl was going to skyrocket to success. I booked as many concerts as I could to see her live, first at the Blue Note in NYC, then the Lincoln Center where she sang along with Wynton Marsalis and finally here in Boston a few days before Christmas. We got to meet her after two of those shows and found her to be the nicest, most gracious and humble person you could imagine. This young woman has the voice of an Ella, Sarah, Billie, Dinah, Carmen, Anita, Nancy, Betty - all wrapped up in her own unique Samara sound. I’m SO grateful that we have such a talented jazz singer who’s so young so we’ll be able to hear high quality singing for many years to come. We need more of this type of talent featured at the Grammys. What a breath of fresh air Samara Joy is! This was well deserved!

She absolutely deserves this award. It’s been years since someone has come to the scene with such amazing refined vocal chops. I’m so happy for her 🙌🏻

I’m so happy people are able to recognize that she deserves the awards and it’s not about who’s the most famous

What a beautiful moment for this outstanding young talent and the legacy of jazz. Samara is carrying the torch that Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn lit and shined before the world and they must be looking down from heaven beaming with pride. Congratulations to Samara Joy on her win!

Samara Joy is one of the best voices I've ever heard. Her versatility is amazing. Soft coo, belt, high, low, she can do anything. And so clear. She's a real marvel.

Obviously, she did not expect to win. Her joy and excitement were great to see. It's great to see jazz in the Grammy spotlight. It is rare.
  • Congrats from a 75 year old Jazz drummer, you deserved it for all the hard work you have put in!!!!😎🎶🥁
  • @SilverStrumer
Big congrats to this young talented lady. I was playing Warm December during the holiday season and instantly fell in love with her voice.
  • Her voice is sublime. Truly one of a kind. All the best to her.👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
  • Discovered her less than a week ago, and so glad I did! Still can't believe that old-soul voice coming from a 23-yr-old. Sarah and Ella swingin' up on high to the sounds of this young woman. Looking forward to many, many years of listening to Samara.
