I saw a documentary that had the Queen's maids of honour recounting their experience of that day. And one of them recalled that moment before the anointment of the holy oil when the priests and and all those men around her stripped her of all her robes and gown and she was left with just her white shift. The maid of honour said she had never seen the Queen look so small, so alone, and so vulnerable standing there, a young girl stripped of everything, with nothing but the thin fabric of her shift covering her body, almost naked. The maid of honour said she took such pity on the Queen that she wept. And her voice broke as she remembered that moment as an old woman. That was the most moving story I heard about the Queen's coronation--from an actual witness who knew and loved her.
  • I was a 5 yr old in kindergarten when QEII was crowned. It was televised, I don’t recall the time of day or night of broadcast but my parents let me watch it. It was one of earliest childhood memories, I was just enthralled by this beautiful queen and all the
pageantry. The early imprint of the coronation left me with a lifelong affection for the queen. She appears to be such a gracious and benevolent monarch., as if out of a fairy tale.
  • As I said before ... The Queen as a Young Woman was lovely looking with beautiful skin and lovely teeth which enhanced her Smile... She still has these features ... no one can look like her .. She had an extremely strong considerate personality .. and this Actress has managed to Convey most of her character .. however her beauty does not Outshine the QUEEN ..
  • This series is so excellent. The actors are incredible, while the writing is first-rate. Wish it didn't have to end.

    Claire Foy was phenomenal!
One might not realize how the show brought a whole new perspective and new found admiration/interest for the monarch from around the globe. All thanks to excellent writing and portrayals.

The Crown has been the greatest PR the Royal Family could have hoped for. It has made people really appreciate the Royals, and our own British History.
  • Charles may not have been aesthetically handsome.I can tell you first hand that he is not the restrained royal that they portrayed him as when you were in his presence. He carried himself with such dignity that he had a magnetism that was from a life of service. William is blessed with the same natural grace along with the physical beauty.
As a high school student in San Antonio,Texas. The newly married Prince Charles came through on a tour of low income housing projects. Diana was not present I don't believe she was in the country at that time and they had must have been married just about a year. I won a radio contest and was actually invited to the luncheon that he attended. I was as close to him as one table over. And I did receive a very nice smile when I curtsied.

34:20 One scene of the coronation episode that struck deep with me is at the end, where Edward VIII crying while playing the bagpipe. It's so poignant. Even after all the big talk of, "I gave up the Crown for something greater still: Love." It certainly hurt him pretty badly. Though, I'm not sure if the crying scene is historically factual, it is most certain that the abdication crushed him (and almost crushed the Monarchy).

I watched the first episode and couldn't get enough.I watched the 2 seasons in 2 days.I hope season 3 will come soon!Love peter Morgan,i could listen to him all day too.
  • On my second run through of all three seasons so I would be completely back into the flow.
In episode three of season 4, I couldn't help but cringe at the name of the restaurant that Camilla requested Diana to meet her at...
The Menage a Trois.... Classic...Another detail I noticed was in Season 4. David had a young boy, about 12,who dressed then brushed his coat.
Several episodes later when David does die. The boy is now a very mature man. After Wallis leaves the room, the adult servant pauses in the doorway and looks at David ,dead in his bed, then closes the door. His entire life had been spent in service to David. Very subtle moment of the season.

Funny that Peter Morgan says he's not a "Queen Nutter", when his works have been the best sort of propaganda in favour of the monarchy. "The Queen" saw Tony Blair fall under Her Majesty's spell and I have to agree, because in "The Crown", I found myself utterly in love with Elizabeth- buying into her role as divinely ordained and marveling at her constant inner struggle. Yes, the cage is gilded, but it is a cage nonetheless. I hope the monarchy survives another century, and it is with sadness that I realize Elizabeth Regina is the last Queen Regnant I will see in my lifetime. Somehow, the male heirs don't inspire the same level of devotion.
