To clarify i'm not saying the animation is bad, i just think it looks funny as hell since animes mostly look serious and carfully crafted.

I mean, it could've been a stylistic choice. If you look at the original manga for Ping Pong as well as Taiyo Matsumoto's other work, it has that distinct style. Also, the series was animated by Tatsunoko Production, who you may know for creating Speed Racer, the Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Gatchaman, and several Transformers projects, meaning they know what they're doing and have been doing it for a long time (long enough to do a full Tatsunoko vs Capcom crossover). And even then, it's not unique in this style, even as a Japanese work of fiction. ONE's unique style reflect this, with the original One Punch Man webcomic looking like this (it was Yusuke Murata who cleaned it up for the manga), and Mob Psycho 100 having shades of it. Natsume Ono also takes this route, with her manga Not Simple and Ristorante Paradisio. I'm not saying you can't have you're own opinions. You can say it looks off, and I have to respect that. But I feel like something like this, where there's a clear pattern of events and development, needs some context and thought before just being written off as "bad".

This is beautiful. Remind me of The Ping Pong Animation

I mean... yeah it is. Weird art style but it has good movement and camera placement. Looking at that wide angle shot near the end shows that they are good at drawing characters in perspective. If this title was bait for animation fans then you did a good job lol

its not bad animation its just in a certain style that your not used to.
  • I really love the style! Ping Pong the Animation had a number of production issues, and some rushed/incomplete sequences, so I wouldn't call it the peak of Yuasa's style. But the wobbly linework and loose, spontaneous motion perfect capture the feel of Taiyo Matsumoto's comics. The movement- at times stiff, floppy, or jerky, is more observant of human gesture than most well-drafted anime movement. If you want a point of contrast, Tekkonkinkreet is another Matsumoto adaptation, and its animation is far more polished and professional. And while there are great aspects of that movie (the backgrounds are among the best... ever?) the character movement and expressions can feel awkward and detached. But this choppy, floppy animation- unpolished as it is, cuts closer to the half-dreamlike half-observed spirit of Matsumoto's illustration. To me, at least. This is also one of the few times the "wobbly line filter" looks good in anime. Usually it's just artificial and distracting.

quality is subjective, the style itself looks unique though
  • Im not joking when i say people who say stuff like "oh thats good animation" its just a flashy scene its by all accounts good But this is just really nice to look at even with the artstyle
