Instagram changed their algorithm, let's talk about it (these changes are MAJOR!)

I am TOTALLY fine with the explore page pushing new content creators to me. HOWEVER, I seriously feel that Instagram should just bring back the algorithm, where my following feed shows me my following's content in CHRONOLOGICAL order! It has been such a norm that I missed my friends' postings for MONTHS!

I'm actually happy about the fact that Instagram is gonna replace unoriginal content with the original content since there's so many people in the art community who usually take your art without permission and repost it to promote their merch which is annoying since they have bigger account all of the attention goes to them instead of the artist themselves

Im so tired of opening suggested content from big influencers and brands and I will rarely get to see my friends content if I dont intentionally look for it

I wish instagram formatted the app like YouTube. Like you have an “explore” page where you can see recommended content and then a feed exclusively from people that you follow/subscribe to. Because I feel like a lot of people have been feeling like not even their followers are seeing their content half the time.

I get more attention on TikTok and YouTube than instagram 🤦🏾‍♀️. My first priority are those platforms over instagram.

As an artist, we are all completely struggling with this algorithm change. Personally I have always managed to work with the algorithm but for now it’s just went downhill. Which I find funny as artists we always post original content🤷‍♀️. My reach is the lowest it has ever been for years and I’m not even getting 1000 views on a reel anymore. It’s never been this bad and I have no idea what I’ve done to cause this.

This is nice and all BUT there's a lingering issue on Instagram that still demands attention and is why many people don't even bother with the platform anymore: The unjust banning and deletion of accounts and comments. Instagram still hasn't adequately addressed the fact that SO MUCH content keeps getting mistakenly flagged as "going against community rules and standards."

I’m not mad at this change at all. I also hope once the algorithm gets you in front of the audience you’re wanting & they follow you, that they will be able to see your content. Because that’s what people are complaining about the most. It’s nice to get in front of new audiences but don’t forget the existing one.

I'm really happy with the diversification of recommendations. Especially, if I actually start to see smaller accounts being recommended to me. I really love finding those because you can actually connect with the people running them. Unlike the bigger ones (that I've been seeing almost exclusively in my feed - 70-200k), when you comment, they reply, and you have a conversation! Social media becomes social again! It's been hard to grow your own community, sure, but it's also been really hard to find communities to be part of.

I swear something similar is happening with youtube! For the past 5 days or so I've only been suggested on my home page small channels (appart from my subscriptions). I've enjoyed this proces but remembered this video and knew I had to come back and let u guys know!

The only difference I’ve noticed is that I have no views, likes nor followers the first day… After 2 days it all comes at once …

Changes sound great but I only post original content and my reach has reduced. Maybe they’ve got it wrong. I want to know how they judge what is original.

Since they changed the algorithm my reach has plummeted.

Thanks, but there’s something much more dramatic happening than what you’ve explained. Traffic for my Insta AND my colleagues in the industry are WAY down for no apparent reason. My personal theory is that paid ads are absolutely multiplying across every feed to the extent that followers barely see anything we post. When social becomes over dependent on advertising it’s probably the beginning of the end. Very sad.

I LOVE both of those updates! First of all, they will be a great help for my business account so I can hopefully get some followers and engagement. But for me personally on the platform, I'll love seeing more original content. I get tired of seeing a lot of things reposted or redone, so yes, love both!
