I want to surround my whole walls with this to make it look like some 4 dimension trippy shit.

Interesting how this stuff is just catching on lately. Back in 1977 a buddy of mine wanted something interesting to light his tricked-out van with on the inside. I'd been playing with 2-way mirrors and suggested building a "time tunnel" mirror to mount on the wall. It was 18" high and 30" wide. Regarding the lighting, this was before things like affordable sequencer lighting devices, so I created a small remote-sized control with 3 micro-switches, each one controlling every third light in the series going around the interior. So, by rocking his thumb across the 3 closely-spaced switches, he could do a "chase-lights" thing, or alternate the lights, or make them run in any order and timing he wanted. And because we left about 3½" or 4" between the back and front mirrors, the "repeat-distance" was extended, and the thing looked about 10 feet deep! He had that thing for about 5 or 6 years. It was the highlight showpiece whenever he was showing off his van. Some people even went around the outside of the van thinking there was a "tunnel" extending out the outer side of the van wall it was hung on, and were amazed when there was no 10' tube actually sticking out. (Some folks are SO easy to spoof!)

Thanks for the tutorial! You gave me the inspiration to make 2 of these ( One blue, One orange ) and complete my son's gaming room! ( He loves portal! )

Now you can make 4 wall-sized ones and pretend you live in a discotheque
  • @TheFishCostume
That's really neat. Maybe you could use even brighter lights to increase the depth.

Thanks for this tutorial, so I all I need is LED lighting, check, mirror, films for car and spray and hammer check I can’t believe it’s that simple and such great effect , I found this easy to understand
  • I'd like to hang a row of these on the wall and have one that's an actual hole designed to look like an infinity mirror so I could jump out of it and grab people and try to drag them into the "portal".

This is a genius idea and has helped me with my Alice In Wonderland inspired art project. Thank you! :D
  • I really appreciate how you take the time to explain step by step procedures.

now all you have to do is hang it up on a wall where there is a secret passage behind it...
