1999: How the Underdog Knicks REWROTE HISTORY

But let’s rewind 25 years, back to when a team reminded us that the impossible was possible. The 1998-1999 New York Knicks! This unlikely group caught fire at just the right time and was the first 8th seed to rewrite history and reach the NBA Finals. These Knicks players became household names and captured the hearts of Knicks fans forever. Move out of the way Disney, here’s the Cinderella story for the ages.

The Knicks looked for help in very unsuspecting places when they traded fan favorite John Starks to the Warriors for Latrell Sprewell. Sprewell hadn't played an NBA game in over a year following his suspension for P.J. Carlesimo. This left a significant question mark regarding his character and potential contribution to the team. Adding to these changes, the New York front office parted ways with another longtime Knick, Charles Oakley, who was considered the heart and soul of the team, when they traded him to the Toronto Raptors for an injury-plagued, 6-foot-11-inch forward Marcus Camby. The team felt compelled to trade away age and experience for youth and potential. Additionally, they beefed their roster by signing free-agent power forward Kurt Thomas.

These new additions joined a veteran core headlining of Patrick Ewing, Larry Johnson, Charlie Ward, Chris Dudley, and Allan Houston. These veterans were very excited about the off-season acquisitions and were ready to put the league on notice that year.

In today's video we look at The year the Knicks REWROTE HISTORY and made It to the finals as an 8th seed. This was a triumphant and unexpected NBA underdog story.

Loved the story overall, but my actual favorite part was showing those parody commercials for 1-800-TALL-MEN. That cracked me up!
