Hello Singderellos,

In this video, I react for the first time to the immeasurably beautiful Yebba singing My Mind live at Sofar Sounds. In this video, I analyse her performance, explain her vocal technique and what I think made it so great.

  • She just WRECKED us and then just casually said “ Thats that one”
  • @Taylormoser17
The thing that stuck out to me about her performance was the “wailing” notes. I’ve never heard some one accurately make pain sound beautiful. It’s haunting and makes you feel anger and sadness at once. Insanity
  • @corbelius6
I'm 55 year old construction worker and I cry every time hearing this.
  • @ulala8580
I think it is admirable that you let yourself be so moved in front of a camera. Beautiful tears. Thanks for sharing and giving a piece of authenticity to YouTube.
  • @mrmanseven
"She did, I think, consciously, sacrifice, uh, many times in that performance, sacrifice vocal technique, for the way that she had to tell the story." Most insightful comment I've been waiting to hear.
  • It's so hard not to notice that YEBBA was able to take real cries and sobs and elevate them into music.
  • “Honouring your voice to express yourself.” What a great piece of advice.
  • YEBBA performing "My Mind" at Sofar NYC on September 30th, 2016. The first time I heard this song, I thought it was about the overwhelming anguish felt when one is confronted by irrefutable evidence of their lover’s infidelity. But then, I read that Yebba’s mother committed suicide about a week after she sang her first original song; causing "My Mind" to take on new meaning representing mental health. As if the mental illness was taking her mother away 🥺. She says her artist name was chosen to honor her mother, who she said "always called her by the nickname" (her name Abbey written backwards) as a child. In memory of her mother, Yebba twitted in Sep 26, 2020 "This the last time ima respond about “My Mind”. Most of you read as “wow love the way she portrays pain in her voice”... that’s not what it was. It was worship, freedom, Hope really. And I never re-recorded it because I respect the Presence in that room. Let’s move on together." and then "Later that year, my mom committed suicide. I went back and dedicated the performance to her as it was my last before she passed. So that’s where it will always stay. Don’t ask me to recreate it no mo. You ain’t gotta have respect but pls, have some soul. Let’s move on together." Well, she is literally crying without shedding a tear! So strong. So powerful. “That’s that one”
  • Almost every vocal coach that react to this performance just analysis the technique and they forgot the rawness of it all. Thank for sharing and to let your feelings come out.
  • @gk6421
Literally me, too, girl. 😭 I knew you had no idea what you were about to witness. Lol
  • @tyghe_bright
This performance is one of the most intensely emotional ever. The skill needed to be that raw but still sing is tremendous. Those *cries*. Yebba has said she won't ever record the song because this is the definitive performance of it, and she wants to honor what happened in that room. And that protective thing--I've seen so many reactors say things like, "Tell me who hurt her, I'mma come for them". It really does bring out that feeling.

every time i hear this song it breaks me. i was cheated on after 7 years with my partner and ive been trying to pick up the pieces ever since. "i sure wont stay, but i'll be damned if i leave". the amount of times those words flew through my head. this song is so real. and your reaction is so genuine. thankyou for this.
  • @DonJulio1988
Finally, someone let themselves feel during a reaction completely! Kudos to you! I tear up every time I watch her video! 😭
  • @paddyp9174
You are my favourite 😍. I only watch this song now combined with your reaction.
  • @sstillwell
That song is just so REAL...but it was YOU crying that broke me. :(
  • @LUckybones25
I reacted the same way I saw this. Yebba makes you feel the pain.
  • @leelo4717
Watching her make the fairy Voice Mother cry made a 41 year old man cry. Another brilliant video, I have learned so much about singing from this channel. Great stuff!
  • @RobAndrews18
I never cried like this listening to a song. It's beautiful but it drew out the emotion from me. I still can't believe it. 😭😭😭
  • @jen.g.
“She deserves all of the vowels!” Thanks for that bit of comic relief. It was needed. I’ve seen this performance many times, so I knew what to expect…from her. Didn’t expect to be so moved by you watching it. Maybe I need a cup of tea now.
