Lincoln Square, is named in honor of the 16th US President Abraham Lincoln, who delivered his famous Gettysburg Address nearby on November 19, 1863. The square, originally known as Center Square, became a central point of the town in the early 19th century. After the Civil War and Lincoln’s impactful speech, the square was renamed to commemorate his legacy and the significance of Gettysburg in American history. Lincoln Square now stands as a tribute to Lincoln’s leadership and the enduring importance of the events that took place in Gettysburg.
