  • This is the worst way to filter water and best way if you want to die in a most painful way possible. Here's why: Rocks: While some rocks can act as basic sediment filters, they wouldn't be effective in removing hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) from hard water. Cotton: Cotton is not a good filtration material. It might trap some larger particles, but it wouldn't remove dissolved minerals or contaminants. Coal: Coal itself isn't a great filter media. Activated carbon, made from processed coal, is used in some filters, but it primarily removes taste and odor, not hardness. In conclusion, unless you're a big fan of kidney stones and love to get some for yourself and your family, please don't try this method at home.
