Today, we're checking out something that is sure to be a treat to any Gundam Fans out there.

Remember the little dev studio that made Darksouls, Sekiro, and Elden Ring? Yeah, FromSoftware, those are the folks.

Well, it turns out, back in 2012, they released a Gundam game: Mobile Suit Gundam: Unicorn.

Unfortunately, it never received an English release, but don't let that deter you. The game is VERY accessible and playable for those who don't read or speak Japanese. Sure, you may miss out on the story bits, but as long as you've watched the first three episodes of the show, you're good to go.

Incredible visuals, sound, and gameplay make the journey offered by this game one worth experiencing.

Hey folks, just want to clarify one thing. When I refer to "the first 3 episodes", I'm referring to the OVA, which is 100% the way I would recommend watching Unicorn. Edit: And yes, my smoothbrain put a white PS4 when it should've been a PS3

I'm not surprised that the people behind Armored Core made a good Gundam game. I am however a bit annoyed that it never got ported to the west. Finding good Gundam games was a bit challenging for me, at least back then.
  • Correction the armored core people also made elden ring and nailed it
  • @cnhnx
Ah yes, the creator of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Sekiro, and many mecha games including SIXTEEN Armored Core games make a good Gundam game? Wow, shocking. It's almost like they're master of mecha genre before they're known for souls games.
  • @rezevilfan
Its not surprising that From Software made a damn good Gundam game due to the fact that they are creators of the Armored Core series. Its their bread and butter so of speak along with the soul games. Its just sucks that this game never got a western release, but that's Bandai Namco for yah.

These guys made Metal Wolf Chaos and make Armored Core, so they know mecha games. Why Bandai Namco doesn't just trust them with the license is beyond me.
  • @iMoevious
Fromsoft also made: - Armored Core series : their pre-Souls flagship series, Gran Turismo of mech game (the OG game was marketed as mech simulator, so yeah... lol) - Frame Gride : Fantasy-themed Armored Core Virtual-On-like mech game - Murakumo: Renegade Mech Pursuit : Rail-shooter mech game... kind of like Omega Boost (by Polyphony Digital, the Gran Turismo people) - Metal Wolf Chaos : The President of the United States of America simulator TPS mech game - Another Century's Episode series : mecha anime crossover Zone of the Enders-clone game, collabed with Super Robot Wars company (now part of Bandai Namco). Gundam Unicorn is most likely based on ACE games. - Chromehounds : full-on, realistic mech simulator focuses on strategy and teamwork (for multiplayer) - Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor : sh!tty f*cking ass kinect game they were forced to make by Capcom

I had this game, and I had fun. It was obvious they were trying to nail the feeling of the show, and they definitely did. Otherwise though, extremely barebones.
  • @HattyVA
Now imagine if FromSoftware made a Gundam game today
  • @Moe_Infinity
Haven't played this game, but it seems the gameplay's based from Another Century's Episode, another FROM game, a series I've played. It's basically an SRW action game, heavy mecha fanservice. Wanna see Gundams destroying enemies from other series like Macross, in an action game format? You should check that series out too. They have cool opening movies too.
  • @blackhowling
They're definitely experts in this. Another Century's Episode 1-3 they made for the Japanese PS2 are just as excellent.
  • They've been making Armored Core games loooong before their soulsborne games, so it's very natural that they can make good mecha games😊
  • @dirtywookie9868
If only they made this but with most of the other gundam arcs as well.. I would literally cry cause then they finally made a good gundam game and it wasn’t made 5 years ago
  • @RezaQin
Wish we could actually get a good modern coded Gundam game. I love that opening bit: "That's a high speed Jegan!"
  • @solreavir
Yeah this Game along with "Another century Episode" Series was peak Mecha Fan service. I don't recall what happenned between Bandai Namco and From Software as we never got a sequal to close out the remaining Chapters of Unicorn. Maybe development of "Demon souls" curtailed that. They instead went with BBstudios for their future Gundam releases as they already had the battle operation series and Battlefield Record Engine. It's with hope or cope that From revist the Gundam universe cos this was definitely peak Gundam which after looking at AC6 woulda been excellent with a PVP mode or Co-op Mode. Funnily enough Gundam MODs have appeared on PC versions of AC6
  • I am currently playing through Brave Saga (a Japan-only spin-off of the Super Robot Wars series which itself is almost exclusively Japan-only) and the only English I've come across so far is "Save Game/Load Game" my brother in Christ, if it has giant robots I will overcome the language barrier to play it 😂
  • They also made Another Century Episode series which was a mashup of multiple mech anime, kinda sad it died with ACE R, and possibly no hope to get localized due to being a licensing nightmare(especially Macross/Robotech thing). Gundam series is under Bandai Namco and From mostly get published by Bandai Namco, it's really stupid how they don't let them make another gundam game instead of another mobile gacha thing. They're shooting themselves in the foot. Heck just revive the Gundam Breaker series but with Armored Core depth.
  • @clawofthefallen
You would be surprised. They also made several Crossover Mecha Action games. Another Century's Episode series (partnering with Banpresto). The action counterpart to Super Robot Wars by Banpresto.
