Flying Bowline

Published 2014-08-27
One of our students requested some remedial training on how to tie a "Flying Bowline" or "Tugboatman's Bowline". This knot is fun to tie - but a fairly useless version of the classic bowline. Thanks for the request Hanna!

  • Nice video Chris! Good description of the knot, the difference, the use, the tying demo, and an outstanding location for teaching giving the demo. ---- Outstanding! --"Steady" on CF

I'd rather use the grab twist pull technique for line of that gauge since it makes a true bowline and is a bit stronger. 2 inches and thicker would be better for this flying bowline great for tugboat crews.

Similar to a bowline but not correct, tail is upside down which cause a jamming collapse under heavy load,

Nice video! But, sure there is a method to tie this knot around something. The thing is, you don't know how to do it, Skipper. ;-)) Regards
