— Tropical Update - Heat Issues - Spotty Storms —

Our hot and muggy weather pattern will continue into this weekend. Highs on Friday will reach the upper 90s, with heat indices over 110 degrees. Temperatures will drop to the middle and low 90s this weekend as our attention turns to the Gulf of Mexico. An area of disturbed weather should move into the Gulf or near the southern Florida Peninsula on Saturday. This area will track north and may impact Florida, and possibly other regions of the Gulf Coast and East Coast. Locally, residents should monitor the progress of this system and review their storm plans. We still have time to watch as it nears the Gulf!

TODAY:

Intense heat has been our main weather story over the past few days, and this continues into the weekend. Today, high temperatures will reach the middle and upper 90s, with a heat index over 110 degrees. The hot temperatures will last late into the day, so be sure to stay cool if you have outdoor plans. A heat advisory remains in effect until 7:00 p.m.

We have also seen a few showers in our area today, and more are possible this afternoon. Rain chances remain around 30-40 percent into the late evening.

THE DAYS AHEAD:

We see little change in the local weather pattern over the next few days. Rain chances are around 30 to 40 percent through Friday, with a higher chance this weekend. More heat is expected, and heat advisories will likely be issued again.

TROPICS:

Many eyes are on the tropics as a disturbance works its way across the Greater Antilles and approaches the Gulf of Mexico. The system is disorganized at this time, with no defined center of circulation. However, organization is expected over the weekend as it moves near south Florida.

The exact track of this system depends on where the center of circulation forms. Most models anticipate a track near, with the system emerging into the Gulf or near south Florida by Saturday. Beyond that point, the track becomes highly uncertain. The steering currents over the storm will weaken, and it could stall over Florida, the Gulf, or the Atlantic. This will lead to a tricky track forecast during that time period, and residents in the southeastern U.S. need to pay attention to the disturbance's progress.

Locally, residents should review their storm plans. However, there is no guarantee we will see impacts from this storm at this time. We remain on the edge of much of the model guidance. Be sure to check back with FOX10 News over the coming days for updated information.
