Btw couple of tips if you were to continue this: 1. Use markers instead of armorstands they are completely invisible more accurate to the position placed and there is less nbt/commonent data needed to create and target one. 2. Also since you are doing raytracing anyways to figure out where the player is placing a block you might as well replace the item frame with an spawn egg or some other entity that way you can have double slabs. 3. Fixing the z-fighting issue just a matter of making your stairs like 0.01 bigger the normal mc stairs. 4. Instead of comparing blockstates you could just compare the model data of the display entities around it. That way it doesn't matter actual block it's using for collision detection is.

instead of disc fragment 5 i'd recommend using clocks, as far as i can tell they're the only vanilla item without any crafting uses or world interactions

Very impressive job on the slabs and stairs! One thing that I was playing around with was using spawn eggs to spawn the display entity and then waiting a tick to place the block using a macro and that reduced the flash of seeing the placeholder block behind it. If I were to guess, I would think that an upcoming snapshot may give every block an extra, unused arbitrary block state with maybe 8 different values, which means that you could do 8 custom blocks per existing block. It's been in the suggestions for so long, and since they're doing so much "make your own custom stuff" in the recent snapshots - including specifying a block state with the components, I would be more surprised if they didn't do something like that.

I have an idea for the corner stairs. Since you are applying the model on stone stairs, you can simply check if the stone stairs is a corner stair(because there are other stairs around it so it'll become a corner stair) and then apply the model of the corner stair on top
