Why dyslexia is not a disadvantage

Publicado 2017-08-01
1 in 10 children are born dyslexic. Their divergent, lateral thinking has created some of the world’s greatest inventions, brands and art.

About Made By Dyslexia:
We’re a global charity led by successful dyslexics. Our purpose is to help the world properly understand, value and support dyslexia. We believe in the game-changing power of dyslexic thinking. After all, everything from the light bulb to the iPhone was invented by dyslexic thinkers. In 2020 we launched “Connect The Spots”, a global training and advocacy programme to level the playing-field so every dyslexic child can achieve their potential.

To achieve this we have one single minded mission: to train every teacher worldwide in the next five years to spot, support and empower every dyslexic child.

yep, its advantages are higher than the disadvantages. I got dyslexia but I learned and learned I am now ahead in my grade is almost every subject (even English). I am given this gift from God and evolution. The world needs creativity and people who connect, dyslexics can do both those things very well. I am now beyond just English, on to French, German, and Latin I may go.

Dyslexia is a disadvantage you don’t know how hard we work just to read something it makes me feel sad that you think it’s now big deal it’s taking me like 30 minutes just to type this stop making people think that it’s no big deal I go through it every day sometimes I can fall asleep just because I’m crying because of how my teachers treat me sometimes ;(

Now I just feel stupid. I can't do any of those things and I have dyslexia

I knwo this is a later comment but i love my dyslexia at times I feel discourage having to work 10x harder but other times i remember it’s one of the things that makes me unique. While dyslexia doesn’t effect my reading anymore (i have a 12th grade reading level in 9th) it affects my ability to process and remember information I don’t want to.

I think that my dyslexia is a superpower, I wouldn't change it for the world. 😘
  • @brokkunst

  • I've always thought that my dyslexia was a big disadvantage, so thank you 😊
  • @thwRealwolf

Nhaa dyslexia has fucked my life up completely.
  • The school system in which we live is the problem they think and teach that every one has the same brain and if they don’t they have problems nothing about it is true at all dyslexia should be looked at entirely in a different way and should be celebrated not condemned people with dyslexia can do anything the difference is they learn differently and that is ok teachers who specialize in this know that people need to speak up to school board universities colleges to change this it’s about time

Seriously I am fed up with my dyslexia I can't do anything with its a disadvantage for me in all ways I wish I wasn't dyslexic

This a totally new concept about dyslexia but I think we need to take what we know about dyslexia for the most part and toss it. How can someone without dyslexia actually understand dyslexic people we dont think the same way. They test us and compare us to themselves and they see faults when we cant do a few things as well as them. but where are the tests showing that they not only have a hard time doing what we can do they cant even do the things we do. we can learn to spell and read they cant learn the gifts that we have. so really who has the leaning disability us or them. dyslexic people should be in different classes learning things that they are good at and have dyslexic teachers 10 percent of the population are being robbed of there gifts which are actually gifts to the world. the problem is convincing "normal" people which are the majority that they actually are not the best smartest and greatest they are watching a small picture and we can watch them watch there small picture on our big screen so how do we get them to understand our gifts if they are stuck in the small picture concerned with spelling and saying see we are better you aren't great at spelling. I find it scary when i do a google surch on dyslexia because it is just a bunch of garbage about how we can't spell and trying to make us like them as if thats some sort of great thing it shouldn't be like that because we should be like us doing the thing that we can do. I honestly hope im not the only one this makes sense to I realize its a very different way of thinking but i think it makes a lot of sense. Also we need to toss the word dyslexia it mean something like can't spell or do something anyways thats not what we are about and its very negative. we need to start taking a leading role and chose where we go from here
  • My name is Emily have dyslexia and I can understand complex issues but if it doesn’t directly say something I don’t get it, I was told that I didn’t have dyslexia. I’m in 8th grade with a reading level of a 4 th grader in a high level English class, and have a 97. I might not be failing but it’s hard as shot for me, i work twice as hard and get results that others kids in my class don’t even that to try. Yea it’s totally don’t a disadvantage or learning disability at all….

I am not sure it is possible to generalise in that way. They are special cases, that could be categorice with a doble excepcionality: being dyslexic and have high capacities. But for most of the mortals is an invisible disability that undiagnosed in certain countries makes you poor because you don’t have the sames oportunities and categorized as laisy and not inteligent at all.

Having dyslexia is pain in the ass to have, but its something that ordinary people dont have. Whats special about dyslexia is thinking artistic and creativity. We see things quicker than ordinary people so who ever thinks that this is a curse condition think twice.
  • Hey, my parents are do owners on a dyslexic charity, code red, and what you said was undermining the problems we face.
