They really thought letting millions of balloons in the sky would be a great idea 💀

Cleveland: "we're gonna show the world that we were not a mistake" also Cleveland: unleashes a disaster to prove their point

Half a million balloons made of plastic right into the sea, no wonder they called that place a mistake
  • Shoutout to this video for explaining this in five minutes without feeling the need to explain the history of Cleveland or balloons or whatever

The fact the balloons looked like a giant mushroom cloud is truly creepy.

Ok but seriously, let’s say it did go as planned, how could they think this would be a good idea?! Even if the balloons hadn’t gone over the highways or over the lake they would still fall over streets and cause traffic disruption. Not to mention, who did they plan was gonna clean up all this mess?

Never thought I would see a balloon apocalypse

"It's like finding a needle in a hay bale" was the most chilling line ever.

This equivalent to dropping 39,683.2 lbs of trash on the ground. Smh

Not a single word about this insane pollution? There must still be a lot of plastic from this day arround Lake Erie.

As a person who once lived in Ohio and had an absurd phobia of balloons… enough that I can’t be near them… I am so glad that I wasn’t alive back then

This happened when I was in elementary school. What many people today don't realize is that in the weeks leading up to the event, all of the elementary, middle, and high schools were invited to have their students write our names and a message on an index card to be placed into a balloon. So not only would there have been a sea of rubber carnage, but also thousands of index cards. At the time, it was an exciting thing to be a part of, and as kids, we never heard of the tragedy that had unfolded, just the disruption to the airports. Thanks for highlighting this story!
