This was great, thanks Mr. Terry! You're a lot more academically qualified than me and so of course, you added a lot of important color to the original piece. What a great companion video this is <3 I wish I had teachers like you as a youth -Michael

I read an academic journal article recently which pointed out that around 100 years ago anarchism and anarchist were thrown around at things and people the same way fascism and fascist are today, even if it didn't make sense. The article mentioned someone called the Pope of the time of all people as anarchist.

RE 1 of Mr T's questions: Mussolini and Hitler read fascist philosophers, how much H understood or really cared is another matter. Mussolini took fascist philosophy seriously, particularly Gentile, who helped him write speeches and articles Apparantly Hitler read a lot of faked up pastiches of Nietzsche's work. Hitler thought falsely that Nietzsche was a nationalist anti-Semite eugenicist who would have supported Nazi program. But my understanding is that Hitler wasn't that interested and went with whatever his flunkies said would help him attain his goals. IMHO, Nietzsche often wrote outrageous inflammatory quotes that riled up feelings, and liked it for that reason.

I mean there are books written by Mussolini and the “philosopher of fascism” Giovanni Gentile translated in English where they define fascism but I guess that’s just too hard for some people

I have to say, seeing about how Oswald Mosely went from a labour politician to a his BUoF party is pretty interesting. He left the labour party as they had completely different ideas and beliefs in how to fix the unemployment issue (which also led to the meme line of Mosely from his video about unemployment, "we live in a a period"). Both Mosely and Mussolini kind of kept to their roots of socialist/labour party and their new parties, be it the PNF/BUoF, their ideologies are also rooted in a nationalistic version of a socialist ideology, Syndicalism became national syndicalism, which is about trade unions formed by both worker and employers for relationship between the two, unlike syndicalism where organised strikes to control the means of production and economy. I'm very interested in syndicalism and the off-shots that came with it i.e. anarcho-syndicalism (described by Rudolph Rocker), national syndicalism (described by Georges Sorel and Charles Maurras) and other such.

Perhaps we should stand up to every individual evil, even if it doesn't check all the boxes of fascism.

Speaking of fascism, Kraut has an old video titled Yesterday Tactics on Modern Media which talks about the rise of Mussolini in a sort of theatre-style. It could be interesting to check out.

This is both incredibly fascinating and honestly scary

It has also been argued that a lot of so-called "communist" states carry several fascistic aesthetics. I haven't studied enough about Leninism, but if you examine Stalinism and Maoism, you can identify the ethnic populism, the mythical past, the "big bad", and the "everyone is out to get you" preaching. Also, the aesthetics of both of these ideologies is a masterclass in marketing. It appeals to the lay person with worker's rights, but also inflames ethnic divisions, such as the Russians always had with ethnic minorities (i.e. Turkic, Mongolic, and even other Slavic groups in the former Russian empire), and in China there are groups like the Hui, Manchu, Wu, Hakka, Uyghur, Mongol, really anyone who wasn't Han Chinese. Hence why in many left-wing circles, the term "Tankie" is used to describe authoritarian leftists, and the term is used as a pejorative particularly by anarchists, saying that "Tankies are just fascists who dress in red". This is why I do not consider Fascism to be left or right wing. It only has to do with authoritarianism in my eyes. Both a capitalist and a communist can exhibit fascistic tendencies.

In my opinion, i think this video overall does help but at the same time because of so many different aspects from other things we’re not yet there to a agreed apon definition or point of origin. I do agree we are dangerously close to normalizing the use of fascism along with other words that the people representing the real idealism will rise.
  • Question for you Mr. Terry what was the individual fasce that when bundled together made the fasces of Fascism?
