Tesla Model 3 - bumper ripped off by water

Published 2021-11-16
Has anyone else had this happen to their Model 3. Tesla say it is not a design fault and not covered by the warranty. The road had a larger than expected puddle during a heavy rainstorm. The car is fitted with a tow bar and the theory is that the water came up through the hole in the under floor created by the tow bar and the pressure behind the bumper section then ripped it off. As it went under the rear wheels it was caught on the tow bar and dragged along behind the car. The major functions of the car continued to work, although it flashed up drive with caution as some of the auto functions were disabled. The next day, and once the bumper was removed, the car functioned normally except for the rear parking sensors which were no longer attached.
