Best version ever performed!

Ted Christopher - vocals
Mark Knopfler - guitar

This version was recorded in memory of the Dunblane Massacre 13 March 1996, were 16 children and one adult got killed.
A new verse was written, and the children choir who sing the chorus are brothers and sisters of the victims.
The song was released 9 December 1996, and it reached number 1. The proceeds went to charities for children.

Enjoy!

New verse;

Lord these guns have caused too much pain
This town will never be the same
So for the bairns of Dunblane
We ask please never again

Mark Knopfler is the most underrated and under appreciated man in music, I think he's genius
  • @jasstack
Knopfler is anything but underrated. He's been playing for stadiums full of people for decades. His whole band is amazingly versatile.

Mark is not the fastest player in the world, or the loudest, he is simply the best. No-one can match him for putting emotions into his playing.

I totally agree that Mark Knopfler is underrated by many. He deserves so much more for the sheer amount he puts in. A true Guitar master.
  • @thomaskline
Chet Atkins called him his favorite person to play with. You know, Mister Guitar. Chet is probably a better judge than any of us!

This song is already one of the greatest and Mark made this so much better. He is a true legend
  • This is sheer pain and love....so glad I happened on this version.with years in my eyes,I endorse the comments regarding mark knopfker's guitar, but I am humbled to have grown in the same generation as Robert zimmerman.there are not words to describe him, just love in my heart.

That ended way too soon. I could listen to Knopfler go on indefinitely. Every note is gold from this guy. Really special player.
  • The most talented guitarist of all era's ,none could even come close to this genius on lead ,He's magical ,what true brilliance

The children singing in the background were the surviving class friends of the children and teacher who were murdered at Dunblane School.  Breaks my heart every time I hear this song.  Beautiful version.
  • One of the great classics, played with immense feeling. Beautiful. This was played at my younger brother's funeral by one of his close friends, so has much sentimental meaning to me too. "The Lord is my shepherd that I shall not want..." - Peace to all YouTubers and your loved ones.
  • This is the best version of "Knocking on Heaven's Door." Mark Knopler is a virtuoso with the guitar. He doesn't bang it like so many guitarists. In his hands, it's like a "voice."

Love his style of playing, pure feeling like David Gilmore. This is a beautiful version, almost a hymn ❤️👍

Mark Knopfler is one of a kind.  He has never disappointed.
