SCP-003 - Biological Motherboard (SCP Animation)

Published 2021-07-31
SCP-003 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as the Biological Motherboard.

SCP-003 is a motherboard that appears to be composed of chitin, hair, and nails of unknown biology. SCP 003 is capable of controlled emissions of radiation, including heat, light, and anomalous radiation types. SCP003 contains an internal power source of an anomalous nature, which appears to have been losing power since several centuries before discovery. So then why is this living motherboard so dangerous and hard to contain that it gained a Euclid classification? Because under the right circumstances, SCP-3003 will begin to grow and change, becoming something completely different that you will have to see to believe.

This one came packaged with the special containment procedures. What a deal!

Flesh trying to grow and machine trying to stop it. Sounds like a particular pair of gods to me

Our brains graphics card must be crazy to be able to load a huge open world game with top tier graphics
  • Somewhere, in a secret facility, of a secret organisation is a mysterious motherboard, consisting of living tissue, protected by several well trained guards, and somehow Linus Sebastian will find his way in there to drop it.

as Dr. Bright once said, "throw D-Class at it until it stops" for once he was right

They don't seem to have noticed - the making contact with it, and not being allowed to have any mites on their skin, is not primarily for preventing its growth. It is because, to quote the interview: 'She would be happy to make a paradise for any sufficiently complex organism she comes across first. Anything with a complex enough mind to accept her. Say, a dog. Or a housefly. If she breaches again, we have to be there first.'

It's funny that the girl with double-vision said it was such a nice lady, that means she could actually talk and understand the entity meaning part of the entity speech talks about future things at the same time as present things, so the one that could see present and future could understand the entity perfectly.
  • @Fyttiana
a better way to contain it is to have a supply of flamables close by so in the case of a power outage they could light a fire in the room and leave so no personnel needs to use body heat

This makes a lot more sense after watching the "Double Vision" SCP

This started out horrifying but then... Kind of sweet, and comforting in a way. I'm glad the original author really wanted to place emphasis on the "mother" in motherboard. But then, it just makes you wonder, who was responsible for the stone tablet (003-2) and adjoining it to the biological component? I also find it extremely meaningful that the animators chose to convey the biological hardware using examples and themes pertaining to the ocean, where life is said to have originated from.

“It is made of living tissue “ Proceeds to list fingernails, hair and chitin as its components

This SCP sounds like it’s linked to SCP 1000 Bc they made living machines and technology
  • @hakimdiwan5101
I believe it's a work of SCP 1000 since they're known for creating organic machines thousands of years ago.

Keeping it contained should be relatively easy. Starting with the containment chamber, you insulate the HELL out of it, so that heat inside it stays inside it. Second, you build redundant heat sources into the room, but out of range of 003's absorption range. Electric heat is easy enough, you build in radiant heaters. Thermal heating is accomplished using a gas-powered heating unit, similar to a standard house furnace. A secondary thermal heating option is to include steam radiators. These have the added benefit of being able to increase the ambient humidity to improve direct heat transference. Radiant heating can be added in the form of infrared lamps. Finally, you include what the tablet has; a radioactive element that generates controlled levels of heat through decay. Waste heat from a nuclear power plant would do. Using a Thorium reactor would be ideal, as it cannot melt down. Either way, the power this provides would be more than enough to keep the heating elements fully powered. Finally, the cell should be the destination for all of the waste heat the facility generates through the use of battery banks, computer server racks, air conditioning, etc. If you're feeling particularly ambitious, you can use surplus power to suspend the whole damned thing inside an electromagnetic field large enough to keep it away from absorbable matter.

Even though Sarkicism didn't exist, when SCP-003 was written, BUT, maybe Sarkicism is involved, with SCP-003... At least, that's my theory.

  • I've been begging for this one Also maybe the stone tablet represents technology and the motherboard represents flesh and they are both at constant odds with each other so it might represent the constant conflict between the flesh and the machine.
