  • I absolutely love how everyone at the baseball game just slowly leave the game. No screaming, no panic but everyone is frightened and don't know what to do.

I like the way these things only just crashed on Earth and immediately started ripping everyone to shreds. We all knew they where aggressive but they literally have zero chill

What I love about John’s character is his constant awareness. While everyone were still staring at the meteorite - he took his family away first. As soon as he had a glance on the monster - he rushed to his car where his deaf daughter was waiting for him to return. While they were hiding in the bar with others, as soon as the phone rang, he realized they're screwed and he ran towards the exit with his daughter; I'm pretty much sure everyone else were already dead by the time they escaped. And even in the shop, he takes a while to ask what happened.

Love how the father hid and kept others quiet, not because he knew that was the way to survive these blind monsters, but just because it was his instinct to try and be quiet as possible while hiding so as not to attract their attention.

As someone who grew up in a tiny town tucked away in the mountains, they captured the laid back vibe perfectly. The town can seem almost deserted, but there are people everywhere just chilling

A lot of people are confused as to why Lee (the dad) “knew” to stay quiet or realized the key to survival was sound. I don’t think he knew. He just figured that when hiding, you probably shouldn’t make unnecessary noise that could attract a creature. Just as you shouldn’t stand in the middle of the street and jump around waving. He didn’t know that the monsters were blind and only relied on sound. He just knew that they should do as much as possible to stay hidden, just as you would if you were hiding from a murderer or playing hide and go seek. Once it all died down, they probably just continued to be quiet and hide because they didn’t know if one was still around and they should communicate through ASL anyways. It was just logical thinking on Lee’s part.

6:54 I know this a movie but the sheer brute strength it takes to just casually bump into a 2 ton car like nothing speaks volumes to how powerful those creatures were.

I love how John pulls his daughter away when she tries to run towards her mom's car...the alien killed a person close by right after which indicates the daughter would've met the same fate...John's instincts saved her

I love how after watching the first movie, when we see “normal” life before the creatures come, everything seems so loud, like the bag of produce, literally just walking, keys jangling, and it works so well, that I was almost more tense when life was normal.

The terror of being deaf in a situation like this… Man these movies were well done.
  • @rama30
I love how the viewer is made painfully aware of every single sound.
  • @Tenshi-Quinn
As someone who has worked in film his whole life, the scene here that really blows my mind starts @1:37 - Jon walks past ALL THOSE WINDOWS and we NEVER see the camera in the reflection! They had to CG eliminate it in post - perfectly - or this scene would not have worked at all.
  • @richardbobby62
I love how when they notice the meteor there’s no panic, no screaming it’s just them saying ight I’m out and trying to just go home.
  • I loved how John’s character immediately started running when the first alien appeared, I feel like I would stand still in complete shock
  • @HadenTrace
Okay I’ve never seen this movie but as someone who has learned ASL and a lot about Deaf culture not only is this quick snippet amazing but I absolutely LOVE that the daughter didn’t react to the rumbling sound of the meteor because she didn’t hear it. Attention to detail and knowing your characters like this is always amazing, and I also appreciate the accurate sign language!!
  • @davidr9876
This and the start to World War Z are the 2 best action/thriller movie openings I've ever seen. The camera work, the sound, and going from normal to SHTF so fast is riveting.
  • @DryRoastedNutz
The transition from normal everyday life to horror is super easy, barely an inconvenience.
  • @alphabet_3392
That scene where the mom is driving in reverse is probably one of my all time favorite scenes ever. It’s just so terrifying and realistic that it works.
  • @jacobtrost5048
Whether you did or didn't like these movies, you cannot deny how good the sound design is. Everything is so intentional
  • @AmethystSnow
Imagine how terrifying being deaf must be here! She has no idea if people are screaming or being hurt around her, she just sees this giant monster walking in front of the window. Awesome movie.
