Hannah is wicked smart mate. Her calling the "recruitment" tactic 10 minutes into the video applause

43:40 That's also why the girls were moaning/crying with Dani earlier almost in a chant. It's part of the cult initiation tactics and a way to bring everyone into the hive mindset. Think as one, feel as one, never be alone again, and never be an individual again.
  • I'm actually really impressed that they figured out what was going on so quick. A shockingly large amount of people genuinely think this film had a happy ending, and that Dani finally found people who honestly cared about her. It says a lot about Aster's direction - he's managed to indoctrinate his own audience without them even knowing.
  • Fun fact: Dani smiling at the end was her choosing to let everything go, and to just except the way her life is now. She is smiling like that because after everything that's happened to her, the trauma of losing her family, and then going through watching all her friends die horribly was to much. Her mind is broken, and she is expierencing the kind of joy only someone who has truly gone insane can feel.

I do think Hereditary is way scarier, but I love how Midsommar is a horror movie set in the daylight. So rare to see a director create good scares without relying on the darkness. Bright, colorful, gorgeous scenery… and yet horrific.
  • Hereditary and Midsommar are truly twin movies, and Ari has described them as such. One in daylight, one in darkness. Death of family opens the film. One cult using love, the other using force. A character who is friendly to the protagonist actually driving them into the clutches of the cult. Massive head trauma seen a third of the way through that changes the whole tone of the film. And a character crowned king and queen at the end.

Horror based on atrocious human behavior hits me harder than supernatural stories because it can and may actually occur. Also, Florence Pugh in this film gives one the most real, distraught, pained, guttural cries I've ever heard in any film. It's one of the greatest horror performances that I have ever seen.
  • They portrayed panic attacks very well in this. Having panic disorder made it hit hard. Crazy film
  • The way Hannah screams when she gets scared makes me laugh so hard

I think the ending of the Midsommar screenplay not only sums up the final shot perfectly, and answers some of the most pressing questions a viewer may have, but is also profoundly beautiful on its own: "She has surrendered to a joy known only by the insane. She has lost herself completely, and she is finally free. It is horrible and it is beautiful."
  • Had a few beers with Ari back in 2009 before he had made his films, he was just a uni student and I was travelling through USA. He was so laidback and friendly, I had no idea he would make such astonishing films!

“I’m not eating bolognese for a while” 😂😭 what I would give to have a pint with you both, your reactions are my favorite ever. Thank you for the endless laughs, cheers!
  • Hannah being willing to join the cult because they have cute goats is simultaneously really sweet and really unsurprising 😭

Idk if you noticed it - but what's really creepy about the scene where Dani's crying is the indoctrination happening there. First they surround her; so she can't see anything but them. She has nothing to ground herself back in reality, away from them, because they are all she can perceive. Then they mimic her. Then, slowly, they make it so that SHE is now mimicking them - without even realising she's doing it. It's so sneaky and clever. Also you guys have really good reactions. Subbed.

I really do enjoy watching whatever you guys watch. Florence’s character wasn’t supposed to know or come but Pelle seeing her vulnerability was excited that she would become part of their cult. The villains won

The fact that this horror movie is set in a completely sunny bright environment and still absolutely terrifying is so good. Props to the crew who made this movie.

Ari Aster is a true modern master of horror. His films delve deep into the psyche. And once again proves that some of the all time greatest acting performances can come from the horror genre. Toni Collette and Florence Pugh are proof, it's just a shame the Academy Awards didn't acknowledge what the rest of us know to be a fact. Horror delivers.
  • Hannah continues to amaze me. She just gets it right away. The moaning in unison is a collective consciousness
