Lionel 6460 Crane Car Rebuild

Published 2021-10-17
I purchased this car, along with several Lionel locomotives, cars, accessories, track, and transformers for $40.00.
The pride of the collection is a 1947 675 that needs much TLC. While I wait for parts to arrive I'm cleaning up and repairing the line. Follow along as I resurrect these amazing pieces of scale model history.

Further, I really like the craftsmanship that Lionel put into their products, these people were proud of their work and it showed. Unlike some of the stuff we get today, they made things to last!

Good job! Nothing like giving these old Lionels a second chance. Love the background music, too!

One suggestion you might consider. A thin piece of plastic sheet along the repaired break as reinforcement just to insure that it stays fixed.Good job saving one of my favorite pieces of rolling stock

The cab body was also used on the tower crane as well. I have a red one very similar to the one you restored, the body does not appear to be painted but cast in a red plastic. I know the crane was made before the General Mills/MPC era.

I think we have this same crane car. They were really common, I guess.

My crane had almost the exact same crack in the body which I did the same thing as super glued it together but I also took some little flat piece of plastic and glue them on the underside across the crack in various places on the crack I used like three of them just to support that from cracking again

The crane car used to have two 6 wheel trucks and then they cheapen it to four wheel trucks.
