so glad i got to do undertale for a video again 🥳 lemme know what y'all wanna see next! also... how are you? i wanna know what's new in your life 💙
  • You should do an Undertale Playthrough, I know that's not what you do but I know you would adore the story and the ability to hear the music in the game, it makes the emotion so much stronger with context. I've been in the fandom for 2 years now and truly it is a beautiful story.

Since you've listened to "Your Best Nightmare," I highly suggest that you listen to its follow-up, "Finale." It's by far my favorite song in the entire soundtrack.
  • 6:35 Funny how he mentions "The songs loop that's why its ending is abrupt" On the parts of 'your best nightmare' that only plays once and never loops
  • @mxvoide
Fun fact Toby introduces multiple lietmotifs in the soundtrack. Especially in the "emotional" songs you love so much. Its actually an inside joke within the community that he made one big song but just used the melodies from that song in the soundtrack

6:20 ofc you would be confused because you haven’t played the game. This song is actually for a very chaotic boss fight that has several turns and phases. This song is so intense when you fight the boss while listening to it along with the other sounds of getting damage or damaging the boss and with the sounds of the bullets and all kinds of thing being thrown at you. It’d make more sense if you played the game. Also it’s a shame that you haven’t listened to what came after this song which is titled “Finale.” This is what marks the end of the battle and I think it’s amazing. That’s why I think if you plan to listen to the sound tracks, it’d be better to listen to them in order or at least to let someone guide you on what to listen. But all is good, feel free to listen to whatever you want. I like your reactions nonetheless.

The moment I heard "Your Best Nightmare" I KNEW you were gonna be confused without the context of the battle lmao Also I'm tearing up at "It's Raining Somewhere" because of the context 😭
  • @sigma--boss7098
You should check out "Can you even call this a hotel i didn't even receive a mint on my pillow or anything" next. And yes, that's the whole name of the song 💀

You really need to finish the game lol. When you see these songs in action its mind blowing. the leitmotifs too, the leitmotifs are freaking genius. Its amazing that somehow Toby fox intertwines all these amazing leitmotifs into his already amazing OST. Like your missing out by just listening to a few of them. Your not forced but like such a good game lol. Also you look like such a cool guy, uhm thanks for these videos!
  • Yes you have heard the melody in Bonetrousle, but not from this specific song. You're probably thinking about his actual introduction theme, "Nyeh Heh Heh," which (much like every song in this soundtrack) uses a specific leitmotif, the "Papyrus" leitmotif. Bonetrousle is basically an extended version of Nyeh Heh Heh. Also if you want more context to stuff about the soundtrack you don't understand, I suggest looking for a video that explains Undertale as a story. The songs really tie into the overarching plot.

Undertale is genuinely my favorite soundtrack ever. Period.
  • Your best Nightmare is interesting. First of all, it's title references Your Best Friend, the character theme for Flowey. It's also unique because unlike the other songs it's NOT designed to loop, strictly, because the boss is quite...different. Instead, the song is split into various phases of th fight. Also it's split in half, with the final part of the battle using a seperte song title Finale, hence why this one feels incomplete. Bonetrousle is straight up remix of Papyrus' character theme.
  • @axes2ashes
Your Best Nightmare was interesting to hear an outsider perspective on, because it's such a bizarre sounding song. It sounds so chaotic because that's exactly what the battle is- absolute pure chaos. It's my favourite fight in the game, though it also terrified me when I first played it.
  • @Martin-rh6bn
You should definitely check out the Deltarune soundtrack as well! Its so incredible!
  • @jules5187
What's interesting about some of the boss songs is that when you are playing the game so many other sounds are playing as well (attacking, etc.) that I've associated those sounds as part of the song. It'd be cool to see you react to a compilation of the boss fights or something.
  • I would recommend listening to Deltarune’s OST, another game made by Toby. Toby also did the soundtrack for Deltarune, but I believe he also had some help for this one. Tracks I would recommend are: Rude Buster Field of Hopes And Dreams Don’t Forget Big Shot The World Revolving Knock You Down!! Lost Girl VS Susie You Can Always Come Home
  • @Ace_0fSpades
Loving this small series, cant wait for possibly more!
  • @ultra824
'Your Best Nightmare' is heavily based on the rythm of the fight itself. those static segments mark when thr boss's attacks change dramatically. The fight alternates between a hectic overwhelming onslaught of sensory overload and much calmer (but still tense) puzzle-like segments. it's such a fantastic use of music to get across the feeling of a fight

Happy to see you continuing to react to this incredible OST! Some more suggestions are: - Ghost Fight - Here we Are - Finale (sequel to Your Best Nightmare) - Enemy Approaching - Waterfall - Metal Crusher - sans.
