  • the 15 minute luigi and bowser makeout scene was a little unexpected, but a welcome surprise

I love how everyone just unanimously agrees that Jack Black absolutely killed it as Bowser
  • I love that it was corny but not cringey. every time he said a mario catchphrase it felt more like a silly shitpost than just shoving it in for the sake of having it in the movie. I fell out of my seat laughing at the very end when the star showed up one final time
  • When Jack is reviewing a film, you know it will be a true jacksfilms moment.
  • Jacksfilms disagreeing with critics about an animated children's movie based on a video game is certainly one of the Jacksflims moments of all time.

Peach being a strong female character but also having a personality + showing actual interest in Mario (instead of the whole ‘I don’t need no man’ shtick) was great and it makes me happy The attention to detail, too, I was so HAPPY every time I’d recognize something from the game, but also things that I would actively do in the games, and the Easter eggs I recognized or details I’d catch onto :)
  • My daughter is a HUGE yoshi fan (she wore her yoshi outfit to the theater) and was sad that yoshis only showed up briefly in the background. So the post-credit egg hatching scene really got her excited. We absolutely loved the rest of the movie as well though. We were all cheering and nudging each other the whole time when a little musical cue happened or we saw a sight gag. Our family had a blast.
  • I fully expected this to be satire, but the fact this is a serious review should tell you how impressed he was by this movie
  • @Laneykins
I thought it was a really cool detail that the Super star made Mario invincible for around 15 seconds until he inevitably fell into the ceaseless void.

Genuine spoilers for the movie’s ending: One part I REALLY like is how they avoided the trope of “character goes to a fantastic world and has to either leave it forever, or stay forever and never see their family again”. I know sometimes it makes sense, but I don’t really like it and it makes me SAD. The fact that they can just go between the two worlds at will just really made me happy.
  • The movie left me wanting to see more of the world, I loved just how beautiful everything was in the movie.

Just came back from the movie and I can confirm. It was a blast! I had a big disgusting toothy ear-to-ear grin for 99% of the runtime.

The "looks like he ate the wrong mushroom" was definitely made just to explain that to little kids who mightve been confused 🤣🤣
  • the training montage scene reminded me of gamers staying up all night to try and get better and better at a particular level. I pretty much had a big, dumb smile on my face the whole movie. Great stuff

More earnest reviews from Jack please. He's genuinely really good at this.

My favorite thing about it is that there’s no obligatory falling out and the conflict in the third act is actually original. I’m sick of movies always having an argument, sad music, then the characters making up. Not even Dreamworks’ last two movies, which were better than this, avoided that.

Honestly, a "Waah!" at the end would make the move easily 100% better.

I loved when Mario said, “uh, meow?” and Donkey Kong shot him with a tranquilizer dart
