The Royal Air Force (RAF) recently brought one of their Airbus A400M Atlas to Vancouver YVR for what I believe is crew training. It is an absolute joy to see this aircraft in Vancouver as they are very uncommon and it is also one of my favourite military cargo aircraft! Hope you enjoy this unique episode of a unique aircraft. Cheers!

Just wonderful quality filming and loving that 4K. There was something utterly domestic about the prepping. Great video!!!
  • These guys are regulars at Prestwick on training sorties from RAF Brize Norton, what an awesome machine never tire of watching them do their thing. Cracking footage as always

Canada almost bought them, we need transport aircraft for Afghanistan and looked at the A400M Atlas, but it was a couple of years behind schedule and gained weight as it went cutting back on the carego capacity, so the RCAF bought the C-17 instead. That's how we got the CC-117 GlobeMaster III. Canada didn't invest any money in the A400M, so we didn't lose anything. The French Air Force has them too, but made an arrangement to use our CC-117 to airlift supplies to the mission in Mali.

Beautifully "in frame" photography, plus clear quality in sight and sound. Thanks!!
  • Very nice detailed recordings of the pre-flight inspection and a powerful take off. Great video waiting was worth it.

That's some impressive acceleration up to rotation - those props grab the air like no turbofan ever could.

Wow - just wow !!!! Thank you so much for sharing this exceptional video - what a flipping treat. And you got a wave from the flight deck ; - ) From start to finish you nailed it - we expect you felt as elated as we do by this unique experience - well done. Love from London x P.S. my father was an RNZAF pilot so I love a good warbird aircraft or several.

I watched this from a hilltop at RIAT a few years back and it did this insane dive straight toward us ,I actually feared for my life as it came at us, then in an instant it pulled out the dive like a child twisting a toy plane .Good god this A400M is amazing .I see it most days now heading out of Brize Norton and you just can't mistake the noise it makes . .

What a wonderful treat! I was amazed at how fast the ol girl got off the ground. She isn't of the dainty variety ;but she rolled and took off like no body's business!
  • Beautiful composition of every shot. And to get that cinematic quality from a Sony RX10? Epic!
  • @GermanKorb
Really nice job! This plane is a beast! Loved the props!!!
