Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

Can we drop that interim line from Karl's title, i mean let's face it, he has pretty much become the face of Top10z / Bio / Geo graphics, and we all have to appreciate the bowlingballs on a guy who openly admits his surname is smallwood haha, keep it up Karl

16:52 My father helped design that cannon, he shows up for a half-second in the film "The Atomic Cafe" talking to General McFarland.

If you look at the Google Earth image over the Nevada Test Site, you can see all the big holes in the ground from the tests.

so about "paying people to stop suing them" bit, the script made considerable effort to emphasize the whole evil capitalism theme there, but I have to say, the reason people sue in the first place is to be compensated for the unrightful damages done to them. That's just how American legal system works

@16:10 The Sedan Crater is the largest man-made crater in the continental United States, but not the largest man-made crater overall. I would say that title could go to Castle Bravo, whose crater is 6,500 feet (2,000 m) in diameter and 250 feet (76 m) in depth.

Gotta say i'm really enjoying geographics (etc) with Karl. I know Simons take on just about everything now, and had found my interest waning on some channels after over-simon-saturation. Now, we get Karl, and its resparked my interest in the channels he's now hosting :-)

great job Sir Karl on narration. Diggin your stuff so far.

Very good video. Can you make a video on how Mount St Helen’s formed lakes during the 1980 eruption? Or how the deepest lake in the United States aka Crater Lake was formed due to a collapsed volcano?

The radiation didn't just blow over Saint George It also affected mesquite, a town on the border, and ended with many residents getting cancer. Including my grampa who worked at the rest site and died from cancer about 12 years ago

Another great video, man. Keep it up.

being 72, i remember a lot of these. the 2 movies were great. i also remember the duck & cover school-drills, along with tv reporting of many of the testings. we actually held a panama canal debate in school. scarey. nice job ks.

My father worked at the NV test site 1951-54. He first got small bowel cancer and was treated, then he got stomach cancer 10 years later and died. The AEC lied to everyone onsite and in the community. Dust from the bombs filled out house in LV the morning after a bomb test. but the AEC didn't consider Las Vegas to be downwind of the site. My mother washed my father's clothes and both of her arms were covered in a red rash. My sister died in 1963 and they listed it as encephalitis but put a question mark after the diagnosis. The same companies AECOM have now been changed to AMENTUM an "environmental energy" company that does radiation/toxic clean up. Strange isn't it that they make the disaster and now they get paid to clean up the disaster. This is how the govt works.

The Welcome to Nevada sign always sort of reminded me of a mushroom cloud.

Wait what? The whistlerverse is crumbling.

Nuclear "frisson" is defined as that tingly sendation you get when a device of that nature is detonated. BTW, I've had my arsenal inspected ( it's called a colonoscopy ) and it's doing just fine, thank you. No polyps present.
