The scene where Lex and Atom assume they escaped AMAZO but find themselves in his palm HAS to be a Journey to the West reference
  • @sergioruiz733
"We create our own purpose in life, now go create yours." I love how Lex is terrified of AMAZO's power and then we he sees he is a character in existential crisis, he pity's him.
  • I like Amazo's Academy Award look more than the shirtless elf look he had in the comics.

Though Luther is objectively lying, I don’t think he means to lie in that scene. I think in his head he sees both as the same thing
  • Thank you for saying those things about Lex and the God complex. I hate him because he resorts to a victim mentality whenever he is humbled. He goes from "No one can stand up to me!" to "This godlike alien is bullying me, a mere mortal, just because I wanted to blow up California." It's so mentally grating
  • I'm reminded of the words of Mewtwo in the first pokémon movie. "The circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that truly matters."
  • I liked how Amazo saw his creator Dr Ivo as a father and was tenderly watching his body before it got blown up

"We create our own purpose in life, so go create yours." that reminds me of a line from Hunchback of Notre Dame "Life's not a spectator sport, if watching is all your gonna do then soon enough your going watch your life go by without you"

Justice League Unlimited's interpretation of Amazo will always be my favorite and although he only appeared in very few episodes his growth was very interesting and quite deep. The philosophy Luthor's gives him is quite simple but also deep and genuine.

Lex speech to Amazo is like positive version of Agent Smith’s speech to Neo about purpose in The Matrix Reloaded
  • @ivanbluecool
It is pretty funny that lex did in fact save the world a few times over like against darkseid

In the DVD commentary, the writers talk about how they always got complemented on how forward thinking they were when planning the season and how they made this big speech, hinting at Lex's quest for immortality and godhood. They also say this while laughing their asses off and follow it up with "actually, we just kind of pulled the Lex AMAZO bot out of our butts because we needed a big threat and it got connected by the fans that are way smarter than us.

The "aw crap, it's yellow". Made me laugh more than it should
  • @ericjohnson6120
I love that there is so much shit going down on Earth that it gets about six Green Lanterns.

12:15 I'm pretty sure its a direct reference to Buddha and Sun Wukong. Specifically when the money king was challenged to leap off the palm of Buddha's hand, he tried to show off by jumping all the way to the pillars of the universe, only to find out that those pillars are the Buddha's fingers.
  • @ItsAVolcano
Pretty sure this version of Captain Atom is effectively a radioactive energy being contained in a man shaped metal "skin," I don't think he even needs to breathe.
  • @PrincessMatrix
I love this episode because it really contextualizes immortality. Amazo realizes he's advanced and evolved to the point that he will live to see the last star burn out, and now he wants to find a purpose in anything. He also acknowledges his own sense of desire, seeming to be malcontent with the notion of being DC's Watcher.
  • @Kaito57
Honestly, that's the best philosophy out there imo : "Yes, we have no purpose or meaning in life... which means we are completely free to create our own !"
  • @Sane-17
I'm thinking of talking about the justice lords "When will that happen?" Well now I don't wanna
