Bangladesh Unrest LIVE: Muhammad Yunus to Lead Caretaker Government | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Three days after Sheikh Hasina's abrupt exit, the law-and-order situation still remains fragile in Bangladesh. Yesterday, the army along with the country's President met the protesters and appointed Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus as the caretaker leader of Bangladesh. Soon after Hasina fled the country, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman promised the protesters that an interim government will be formed, but the protesters were not satisfied with this. They wanted Muhammad Yunus to take charge of the country. The police chief has also been replaced after a large number of police personnel went on a strike yesterday citing security concerns.

The Opposition is trying to fill in the political vacuum as well. The Opposition Bangladesh National Party (BNP), which is led by Hasina's arch rival Khalida Zia called a rally today. On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma tells you more.

O..la..la.., Md Yunus is back as I had predicted, you call this struggle of students, it is really joke to call so. No western country will give asylum to Hasina as they are the ones who orchestrated this trouble. I am really surprised that Hindu genocide in Bangladesh is not the first news in this episode, but I understand & sympathize you.

India needs to take a clear and decisive stance, sending a strong message to its allies that, regardless of the situation, it will stand by them. India must avoid speaking from both sides of its mouth and prove that it remains as reliable a friend as it was during the Congress era. Time-tested allies like Russia and Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are invaluable, and India cannot afford to lose them. Failing to stand by these friends would send a very wrong signal to all its allies.
