15 MONTHS LIVING WITH A SOLAR PV SYSTEM. LETS TALK ABOUT IT. 13th Solar Update

Published 2022-04-04
I discuss over 15 months worth of data, differences in production from March 2021 and March 2022, possible efficiency loses after a year, and how cold, cloudy, rainy/snowy weather drives me crazy.

I just installed my own off grid system and I use 26 Sunpower Commercial 435W panels that I bought used. I'm not hooked up to output to the grid. I just didn't want the power company in my life... ha. 20k total spend with 30kWh of battery storage. It's nice to have someone in my area that knows anything about solar production.

I have four different PV systems between house, shop, work, etc. Enphase, SolarEdge and Growwatt. I've found the best way to compare lost efficiency is look for maximum production over a period of few weeks over a given 15 minutes section. Typically you will find a common max production peak at solar maximum for the given day if you get a fair amount of sunny days. Got further in the video and what I am saying won't work because your installers overpaneled your inverter by at least 20-25%. This means you won't actually see what the max production is since it chops the curve off at the shoulders. They claim that this provides more efficiency in low light situations and inclement weather, and earlier in the day, but I have run a lot of reports and most inverters these days are really good at low start up and you really harvest more photons on max days then a few percentages of efficiency on overcast days.
  • Hey I appreciate this video! I live about an hour from Fort Wayne. If you wanted to make videos with your kids that could be a great option if you still wanted to do the video making! I totally understand seasonal and also just regular depression can be a bummer! I have a 4 year old and 6 year old and they are crazy, and if the weather isn’t good it’s hard to keep them occupied. I hope your solar panels are doing well now that it’s hotter than satans asshole outside😂😂

Why stay in Indiana? You would most likely be much happier in a warmer climate.
