Stockfish: You hang a rook in one move, I hang a rook in 70. We are not the same
  • For everyone who wants to know, Levy has exactly 37 videos with a title containing the word stockfish along with multiple exclamation marks.

Stockfish evaluating its own game: “this guy’s pretty good”
  • @ShawFujikawa
I think it’d be more fair to say that Leela just made history by being the first to beat Stockfish with black in two years than Stockfish making history for losing it.

As a fish, I can confirm that Levy's face sliced me in half

Leela has a stronger (and expensive to run) neural network compared to Stockfish, that's why it operates at a much lower depth. Stockfish relies on seeing 20 or 30 moves ahead, much more in the endgame sacrificing a small amount of positional understanding. Leela on the other hand compensates for not seeing that far ahead by understanding the separate positions better. And sometimes, this can make Leela see actually further from the position it gets to than Stockfish can see by just physically looking further ahead with lower cost (or "attention") to the separate positions. And that's when Stockfish won't realize, but Leela will. Only if the depth of the tactic is beyond what Stockfish is able to look at.

I've started to learn 2 months ago, after I watched Levy for the first time. I watch him so much now that every time I play his voice is in my head telling me what to do. That means every time I lose, it is his fault.
  • Best teacher ever , the amount of effort he puts in his teaching is just insane
  • @gabepesco
Something that Levy always fails to communicate properly is when the forced opening book is finished and when the engines actually start to choose moves. In this game, it was move 9 for white, where stockfish plays 9. a4. This means that the everything before this was not a decision of the engines, so things like 2. Nf3 and 7. Bxc7 was not actually chosen by Leela. In the mirror position, Leela played 9. Qg3.
  • @lubin509
you should of added a leela eval. interested in seeing how different the eval was at moves 23-26.
  • @geuros
I remember in the games vs Alpha Zero, the neural net really liked to basically trap Stockfish's pieces
  • @Heisl.
This is the gotham I’m lately missing a bit, this is peak content. Feel like lately it lacks depth, unlike this.
  • @Undead_starfish
Can we all appreciate how garry chess made chess so levy could make content
  • @Milo_whatwould
Haven’t watched this guy in forever. Didn’t know his hairline could get worse
  • @Va_Vil_On
Just imagine you reviewing the game and see that the best move is random king move
  • @johnzhou4877
Stockfish is like the cocky big brother in the house that everybody loves and Leela is a young little sister with hidden talents that outshines her brother whenever he gets too cocky and makes a mistake.
  • @MrGary557
What an extraordinary game and fantastic observations of Stockfish's (rare) blindspot, great content Goth.
  • Lc0's strength is that it's so much different than the rest, I believe this is the only MCTS-based boot-strapping eval top chess bot (not sure what's under the hood of Torch though). As an MCTS-based bot it sometimes brainfarts, which prevents it from overtaking Stockfish, but it can also lead to insane wins like this.
  • @tdt6050
It would be fun to se the leela valuation side by side the stockfish elo
