One more tip is that if you aren't clearing jumps, don't just use more speed. Good technique makes up for extra speed when jumping. I took my large 29er dual suspension to a dirt jump park and I was either casing, or accidentally nose-bonking table tops because I was going in with too much speed. I had a hard time figuring out what was wrong, but then I just hit the tables with less speed than I thought I needed and focused on standing up to the jump face and I cleared the whole line with ease!

He forgot the most important tip to jump on a MTB: make sure you have excellent health insurance.
  • @mitch_smith
Well timed video. Went up from 26" 110/130 to 29" 150/160 and the first ride happened yesterday. Jumps feel remarkably different now. I'm over cooking everything.

Good bunny-hop takes time. Enjoy it and take your time learning it. It's worth it! 🤘

Thanks Blake, my MTB Hero as always! 🤜🏼🙌🏼

Cheer ms Blake, Next stage of my mtb progression is jumps and the thoughts of what can go wrong can override what can be done but with your usual excellent explanations along with your default enthusiasm, I’m going forward with a plan of those steps to work with 😎

I'm confused - use the bunny hop technique but says later keep your weight central to stop yourself getting bucked. The bunny hop technique involves aggressively moving your weight to the back? It would be great if GMBN could break down how the jumping bunny hop technique is different from the "on the flat" bunny hop technique 🙏
  • Started the video, saw Blake do the little jump spin on the tabletop, paused the video and hit the thumbs up. Haha. Great stuff!
  • @zyrus4712
this is a bad guide. you said its a easy and fast technic to learn how to jump, but learning the bunny hop is hard and take years to learn.
  • @eziola
Thanks Blake. Another great video! I think there's still debate on the timing and amount of pre-load (and rebound) of the FRONT fork on steep lippy jumps on a full suspension bike. Is there no fork preload? Some? Lots? When? The video on jumping that I would LOVE to see, but no one has ever made would be to suit up in a full face, and a protector with a nice deep foam pit and have y'all demonstrate getting sent over the bars (safely into the foam pit of course). I've been sent over the bars in two main ways (with no foam pit haha), the first is like you said, putting your weight back and getting catapulted, but the second way I get ejected is when I accidentally let my fork slam or soak up a very lippy jump, and then when the front tire comes off the lip, the fork rebound in the air pulls me forward. It's sort of like preloading too late, or letting the fork suck up the face of the jump. Sorry for the long comment! It would be great to see you guys get bucked forward or dead sailor into a foam pit in slow motion!

Not sure about the scooping the feet part. Generally if you just lift your legs/ bend the knees the pedals will naturally follow, but as all things go, the only way to do is to do it. You can only learn by doing the thing you wanna learn.
  • Nice, u said something about the pedals, I found that’s the most important part for beginners especially to learn to be with the bike and use the tires as feet! Cheers
  • @markyp1965
I can think of one or two riders with channels on here, who don’t have great technique (particularly the leg extension part of taking off), but gets lots of kudos. Perhaps, they should be directed to this excellent video?
  • @craigmanson6141
Nice remake of a classic ive been forwarding for ages to the kids i coach thanks!
  • I managed to get my front wheel up a few times today. One time i landed wrong and flew off the bike so that was fun.
  • @graeme5364
What’s not mentioned is the need to ride with people within your skill level. This is a huge oversight for people learning how to jump. Ride with people too skilled and you will crash trying to keep up.
  • Отличное обучающее видео! Спасибо тебе!🤝
  • @richardlyon3
It’s still too complicated for me. Can’t I just ‘stand up to the jump’?
