This Video took quite a while to create. I know I am late to the party, but I really wanted to show you my experience with these metallic paints and how I generally pick which metallics I will use and how their properties influence my choice.

  • My favourite metal colours are the Green Stuff World Chrome series metal paints, especially antique gold. Those colours really look like solid gold, they almost have a mirror finish and have extreme coverage. Their true metal look makes them stand out a bit but depending on which effect you want to achieve, they are perfect. On my Saurus Warriors they make all the gold components shine bright like real gold. I only use a pin wash into the recesses and thats it, the reflections and the shine comes from the light and the surroundings, like real gold would.
  • Glad to see you painting again. I've been really enjoying painting with metallics lately so this is very timely.
  • Nice review. I really appreciate how you take the time to research these things. It demonstrates a level of professionalism not shown by many other content creators. Also, i know it wasn't the topic of your video, but damn your leather effect looks amazing!
  • Pragmatically, I’ve found two really good uses for these metals: 1. The Broadsword Silver over black makes a perfect and quick way to paint metallic tank tracks. 2. They’re useful for things like Chaos Marines if you’re priming white and don’t want to have to base all the metal trim bits before using regular metallics on them. I haven’t noticed the separation issues you have, let alone the paint almost fighting being re-mixed. Any chance it was a bad batch?
  • @hivecasts
I can give you one advice for speedpaint metallics. Apply polished silver as base and once dry apply Sand golem with 50/50 mix with speedpaint medium. You'll get a great brass colour.
  • @Omegaterrain
It's so satisfying to add washes and shades to TMM elements to give them a weathered look.
  • With the speedpaint metallics I've had great success with putting them over one layer of Vallejo metal colour aluminium. Instead of the white coming through you get that nice silver metallic highlight. Looks particularly good with blueish tinted enchanted steel or the green tinted aztec gold.
  • Thanks for the additional work lining up the products. It does help seeing the bottles 👍
  • @PearlJam2k6
I got the recent new set of the Army painter ones, the metallics are insanely good. I dont think ive ever enjoyed painting and airbrushing with metals as much as these ones, i was genuinely surprised at how well they cover and how "deep" the colors are with a single layer. However...I did also have mixing issues with a few of the colors, where they're almost like runny inks with flakes more than "metal" colors.
  • @TrepidDestiny
I love working with metallic paints. I think people get way too hung up on NMM, but a well done true metallic piece is, in my opinion, vastly superior to an equally well done NMM. I should also mention a bad NMM job looks REALLY bad.
  • @necpwnz
This is absolutely fantastic review of a paint bottles. Very in-depth, especially with a background and huge skill level of Trov. I wish all paint reviews were this deep from such skilled masters.
  • @glrasshopper
Fun fact - mica changes colour based on how large the crystal fragment is.
