A number of students in Bangladesh have vowed to continue protesting, despite the Supreme Court's decision to change the controversial government job quotas which sparked last week's protests across the country.

The court ruled just 5% of the roles can be reserved for veterans' relatives. However, protestors are calling for the court order to be implemented before more protests are called off.

A third of public sector jobs had been reserved for the relatives of veterans from the country’s war for independence from Pakistan in 1971.

Authorities in Bangladesh have imposed a nationwide curfew and communication blackout has been imposed.

  • I am a citizen of Bangladesh. There is no freedom and sovereignty in our country now, like any government work, market system, in a word, corruption in everything, except that we cannot vote freely, we do not want this government. This government must resign

  • When the British used to rule over Bangladesh, 150 deaths were considered a pretty normal, peaceful and non violent protest. BBC must be wondering what's all this fuss about.

I am a Bangladeshi. Currently I am living abroad. There is no mobile network, internet connection, and Wi-Wi-Fi in our country. Since last Six days I have no contact with my family in back home. The govt is killing the innocent students and the ordinary people who are helping students. Almost 400+ students were killed by Bangladesh government. Many students are Under 18. They are school children. The government is doing genocide now. We want the resignation of current prime minister Shekh Hasina. She is the most wanted criminal. I urge the United Nations and Human right organizations to help our students and save their lives and ensure the human rights in Bangladesh.

150 killed? Had this been happening in Hong Kong it would have received 24 hour, rolling coverage and editorials from so-called experts.
