Washington DC Metrorail: Actions at Union Station (3/21/1997)

Red Line and Green Line actions at Union Station on March 21, 1997 with Rohr 1000 series, pre-rehab Breda 3000 series and Breda 4000 series trains with second-generation door chime. The Green Line is the commuter shortcut section between Greenbelt and Farragut North. The northeastern terminal of the Red Line was Wheaton before extending to Glenmont in July 1998.

    Wow the trains had 4 cars back then, very interesting. I never knew the red line went to Greenbelt and I love that buzzing sound that the trains made. This was taken 6 years before I was born and I lived in New Jersey for all 18 years of my existence and never been to DC, but because I watch so many DC metro videos, I know the WMATA quite well... or so I thought I did. Great video.

  • At the time there were no countdown clocks so it was a surprise when the lights blinked. Also the only payment was by paper farecard and there were bus transfer dispensers. During off peak many trains were only 4 cars, none more than 6

    I see the Red Line was still running to Greenbelt then. Did they have to skip Fort Totten? Because I notice there is practically no way to get to it from the Red Line ROW.
